hey need a middle of the order power bat. Right now they are desperate that springer singleton and correa will all stick. Odds are they wont.
Singleton. Should've drafted Bryant last year. Taking appel was stupid. Hochevar 2.0.
Alex Jackson this year is the best bat in the draft. Maybe Schwarber or Conforto will fall to round 2. They will be pretty good college hitters available late because their defense sucks.

Correa could have 20 homer pop.
A recent prospect article profiled Correa as one of the better power bats in the minors.
quote:
Power potential: 65
Analysis: Correa hasn't put up monster power totals in his year and a half in the Astros' farm system, but it isn't hard to see that more power is on its way. He's still developing physically, and with his ability to accelerate his hands and square up the baseball, the line drives and doubles into the gap will slowly but surely become round-trippers for the 2012 No. 1 pick, and his 20-30 homers will play whether Correa ends up at shortstop or third base in the coming years.

Yep he could develop significant pop as he gets physically bigger and strong get but it's not like roid era anymore

I mean, you're so hard up for them getting called up....now they're not going to stick?
To be fair, the odds are against minor league guys sticking or being anywhere as good as they're billed to be.
Go look at top 100 prospect lists from 2008 or 2007 or something. Let me know how many ended up as good as they thought.

like Kolek to go through the system as a HS pick but it might be the safer move now
Kershaw was drafted in 06 and started in 08/09. Madbum was drafted in 07 and started in 10. It isn't that long of a wait. It's not like the Astros will be competing in '15 or '16. They'll be ready to go in '17, which is when Kolek will get a sept. call up and then they'd be ready for him to have the full time gig in '18 when Correa, Springer, Singleton, Cosart, Folty, appel, deshields, Mccullers, and Velasquex should all be hitting their peaks.

He's a big guy and could put on muscle to get pretty strong. He could become an early career ARod (minus the roids) and be a legit power bat. Im not ready to say that yet but he's so young and raw. Hard to say what his ceiling is

I think this comparison is completely unfair to Correa. A bat profile similar to Machado, Hanley, or even David Wright is more likely in terms of power.
Correa may hit 30 HRs one year, but he will never approach ARod's power numbers.

Why would it matter who the Astros draft ? Their top notch farm system, will soon{when ?......2011,2012,2013,2014,2015,2016,2017,2018,2019,2020 ?} stock the team with hall of famers !
Posted on 4/28/14 at 11:40 am to Moustache
I was careful to avoid saying he would post ARod power numbers. Obviously he won't unless he starts juicing. My comp was more about a big bodied shortstop with power. Tulo work better for you?

Jake Peavy as a #2?
If you are referring to prime Peavy with the Padres, then he is an ace through and through.

Yes. Tulo still has more pop than what Correa will IMO. I could be wrong...

definitely not prime Peavy. Peavy is just a pitcher that Nola reminds me of. Nola is a poor man's peavy if you will.

Carlos Correa is 19

Well he completely contradicts himself here. That's the only reason I replied here. I don't know enough about prospects and can only look at numbers. I don't see enough play.
With that said, Ryno has been beating the "management is purposely leaving prospects down!" "Prospects should be up NOW!".
Now they're not going to stick? The frick? I get most prospects flame out, but to bash a management team for not doing what HE wants them to do, then turn around and insinuate that the prospects he wants called up are going to flame out anyway.....
Pick a side and stay there

fwiw, I hope Correa turns into Manny Machado 2.0
Machado is obviously ahead in development, but that doesn't mean they can't be the same type player

These college coaches are out of control. Letting him throw 130+ pitches is crazy. He obviously will ride this kid's arm until it falls off as long as it furthers his career.
What's even worse is I was at a Redemptrist game a few weeks back where the coach had the kid pitch 134 pitches.
Posted on 4/28/14 at 12:59 pm to Rabbs and QStick
Didn't the kid at Walker throw 180 pitches?

Correa has more plate discipline than Machado
