Not talking about the call during the actual play but the way the announcer explained what had happened as Gibson rounded the bases?

Vin Scully:
In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened!

Jack Buck:
I don’t believe what I just saw! I don’t believe what I just saw!

These two men are 1 and 1A of greatest PBP men of all time. They did almost every sport. Buck could not do horse racing as he was color blind

Nope not always Vinny. I think Buck’s is more famous call though.

Vin is the GOAT, but Buck's call was more legendary here.

No sir. I love listening to Vin. But Buck was better story teller and had to deal with Mike Shannon

Vin’s call of the Catch was great call as well.

I think it comes down to who you grew up listening to also.

The voice of Jack Buck is me listening to Monday night football on the radio in the early 80s as a kid. And his car on that homerun is far more famous than Scully’s

What’s crazier is that was 30 years ago and it doesn’t seem it was that long ago. I remember where I was when it happened and the shock I had when it happened.

The go crazy folks go crazy call of Ozzie’s homer was a great call also

The Jack Clark moonshot call by Buck was a great call also.

The Puckett HR call in the 91 WS was a fantastic call as well.

Actually no the play was over the ball had already cleared. And they were explaining what had just happened.

Vin Scully:
In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened!

All year long, they looked to him to light the fire, [Scully began]

and all year long, he answered the demands, until he was physically unable to start tonight—with two bad legs: The bad left hamstring, and the swollen right knee. And, with two out, you talk about a roll of the dice... this is it.

Sax waiting on deck but the game right now is at the plate.

High fly ball into right field, she i-i-i-is... GONE!!!

Scully said nothing for over a minute, allowing the pictures to tell the story. Finally, he said,

In a year that has been so improbable... the impossible has happened!

Returning to the subject of Gibson's banged-up legs during a replay, Scully joked,

And, now, the only question was, could he make it around the base paths unassisted?!

You know, I said it once before, a few days ago, that Kirk Gibson was not the Most Valuable Player; that the Most Valuable Player for the Dodgers was Tinkerbell. But, tonight, I think Tinkerbell backed off for Kirk Gibson. And, look at Eckersley—shocked to his toes!

vs. Buck

... then you would run for Gibson and have Sax batting. But, we have a big 3–2 pitch coming here from Eckersley. Gibson swings, and a fly ball to deep right field! This is gonna be a home run!!! Unbelievable! A home run for Gibson! And the Dodgers have won the game, five to four; I don't believe what I just saw!!!

The last sentence is often remembered and quoted by fans. Buck followed it with,

I don't believe what I just saw! Is this really happening, Bill?

Buck concluded his comments on Gibson's amazing feat with this thought:

One of the most remarkable finishes to any World Series Game...a one-handed home run by Kirk Gibson! And the Dodgers have won it...five to four; and I'm stunned, Bill. I have seen a lot of dramatic finishes in a lot of sports, but this one might top almost every other one.

Because it's a fricking soundbite glamorized by the NY media that wanted just a 6 second line - to show on highlight reels. Buck rattled on. Scully told a story.

One was on Radio, one was on TV. So totally different circumstances.

Radio is always more famous especially in the old days because it tends to be more dramatic and hyperventilating than TV because you don't have to explain that it's a fricking HR on TV, people see it.

Buck just talked about the HR...his call is the conclusion.

Scully wrote the forward, the chapters, the conclusion and the epilogue in his broadcast.

Who cares about...a big pitch coming up, it's a gonna be a homerun.

Watch Scully from 10 minutes before Gibson hits the plate to 10 minutes after.

Scully tells the entire story of how this Gibson miracle happened.
