Consider the source.

I imagine it’s easier for states with professional teams. Alabama, like others, only has college...they’re limited. Massachusetts would probably be towards the top of my list, if not the very top.

I’m asking about the history of football. What state has helped promote football to what it has become and what expanded the game.

I mean truly New Jersey is the answer since that’s where the game started.

Pennsylvania

Because

Carlisle/Pop Warner

Pop Warner, this team and Jim Thorpe through this association, of everything you listed in these offerings, were the first to set the events in motion that would ultimately propel the sport of football to what it ultimately became in terms of Americana and an institution. Football isn't what football is without this entity and what they accomplished at the start of the 20th Century. Due to the magnitude of Carlisle's place in sports history, I submit Pennsylvania as the most important state in the history of football also Western PA QBs why we got Namath, Kelly, Montana, Marino and hell Ditka's from there though he wasn't a QB.

My bad, I completely overlooked the football part. I was thinking in terms of sports altogether.

Got to give credit to Penn/Ohio for the early days of football

but if youre talking about expansion and the development of the game Id say Texas

why

the wishbone
the veer

created in Texas

which were the precursors the Run and Shoot and the spread
whch while not created in Texas certainly found most of its early success and popularity in both college and pro

much of that can be attributed to the Texas HS coaches association which the summer clinics would spread the concepts

Gotta be Louisiana.

LSU with 3 Natty’s.

Saints SB champs.

Sugar Bowl.

More Super Bowls here than anywhere else.

Arguably the best state for producing NFL legends- Peyton Manning, Marshall Faulk, Terry Bradshaw, Jim Taylor, etc.

Yeah, but Tejas 7-on-7 Disease also appears to have been the death of Big12 toughness. And the Defenses of all it's former cohorts..plagued their recruiting trails too..

The kids have all the tools physically..but the majority play soft..especially collectively as Units.
