I love hockey, but I can't pretend they're superior athletes.

Good point. The skating skills that these guys have is incredible. Colin Cowherd was talking about how we never see fights any more because the real bruisers can't skate well enough to play the modern game.

Athletic:
1. Soccer
2. Hockey
3. Basketball
4. Football
5. Baseball
3/4 are pretty interchangeable to me

Hockey
They're all white.
They're all white.

basketball players in the NBA are all incredible athletes.
This isn't 1975 where being tall is enough. Everyone is tall, now you have to be tall and awesome.
Darcy Malone would've been an awesome college basketball player in 1975

I say football. There are a ton of quarterbacks who have no athletic ability what-so-ever.

Why? Because hockey players learned to skate?
How does knowing how to skate mean you are athletic?

That said, they are not incredible athletes on the whole; there are some good athletes in hockey-- but consider how long the average ice shift is, and how long the transcendent figures in their sport are able to play at a very high level.
While you see long careers in football, basketball, and baseball, the onsets of decline are rapid, and when a guy 'loses a step' or 'a foot off of his fastball', they are less prone to being able to hang around in their respective leagues, because the athletic demands are higher. The weak link is purged faster.
I love hockey, but I can't pretend they're superior athletes.
Going to have to respectfully disagree on this one. The ability to skate at a professional level is a skill unto itself. That is the major difference between hockey and all the other sports.
Any Joe can take up any of the other sports and be semi decent in rec leagues if they have enough cardio. Running is running and most people can train easily for it. In hockey unless you know how to skate well and have been doing so for years you are going to struggle massively. I have yet to see someone just decide to pick up hockey after never skating before and even just hold their own.

I notice that Hockey is getting a pretty big pass here.
and rightfully so. It puts 210 lb guys skating on a blade of steel 1/8th of an inch thick, extreme hand-eye coordination, very physical, and the conditioning for the sport is brutal.
speed, balance, coordination, toughness, and physically fit players throughout the entire roster

Because he has a strong arm. Not because he can run fast and jump high.
