It's hard (arbitrary) to rank players across generations but the guys who played against him (other than Isaiah's punk arse) have the utmost respect for him - and I personally consider the 80s and 90s as the NBA's greatest generation.

The '86 Celtics will always be my favorite team ever.

Isiah has done nothing but talk glowingly about Bird since then. I think it really got to him.

Even Rodman (who doesn't give a shite) has said he was just young and stupid. Isiah, talking dumb shite about Bird, then Magic and Jordan turning their backs on him.

Made Isiah realize, you don't talk trash like Larry Legend could.

I argued until I was blue in the face 2017-18 that LeBron was better than Jordan and that what he did in 2016 was GOAT-level stuff.

I mean it just sounds to me like you are really bad at making these judgement calls tbh?

And instead of a slight correction, now you are overcorrecting and just using subjective things to power over all the objective facts that make Lebron an overall better player across their respective careers than Bird.

And I'll also continue to point this out, Lebron's claim on the all time hierarchy will only grow as he continues to close the gap and likely pass up everyone in the major statistical categories.

LeBron is the greatest all-around player in NBA history.

It’s not just that no player has ever accumulated 30,000 points, 10,000 rebounds and 10,000 assists in their career – since only seven players have ever reached 30,000 points. Even if we drop the scoring threshold to 10,000 points, there is still not another player in NBA history to reach the career triple-quintuple (10K-10K-10K).

LeBron is in a class by himself.

Stats don’t always tell the whole story.

Career stats don't lie. LeBron could very well be in the 40,000 points, 10,000 rebounds, 10,000 assists club before he's done. He's so far ahead of whoever is coming in second place, it's ridiculous.

LeBron has mastered the entire game like no other. At 37 years of age just barely missed out on another scoring title. He will pass Kareem's all-time scoring record next season. He has already owned the all-time playoff scoring record as well.

Pete Rose is the greatest contact hitter of all time. True enough, stats don't lie. Ricky Henderson is also considered the greatest leadoff hitter of all time. But, again, we're still talking about just one single category of hitting, aren't we?

Does "contact" alone make him the greatest hitter? Not according to the LeBron James scale of overall greatness.

Is it more about Ted Williams's power and batting average? Is it more about Tony Gwynn's high batting average? Is it more about Barry Bond's crazy home run power?

It's about all those things to be the greatest hitter.

Which makes what LeBron James is doing in year 17 of an incredible career the greatest accomplishment in the history of the NBA. It's about everything.

Larry was my man growing up. Being as non biased as i can be, i believe he is top 5. No worse than top 10. His peak from 83-84 to 87-88 is just about as good as anyones, but by 87-88, even though it was his best statistical season, you could tell he was slowing down considerably from just 2 seasons prior. i guess his back breaking down was already rearing its head by that season and was costing him the little bit of athleticism he had. i really wish he wouldnt have hurt his back. A lot of people only remember 89-92 Larry Bird when he was just a shell of his former self.

In saying all of that, i do think Lebron is ahead of Bird in all time rankings, but not a better small forward. i always considered Lebron a Point Guard/Point Forward.

My top 5 would be

MJ
Wilt
Kareem
Lebron
Larry

and i think you really splitting hairs between 2-5 as everyone of these guys can be a cornerstone for a team to win multiple titles. MJ is the best though clearly.

There's a reason Wilt, Kobe and LeBron are viewed with suspicion.

Sadly, even Kareem who has the BEST stat argument for GOAT WAY over your precious LeBron.

Stats are not...humans. Humans watch the games, peers judge, opinions are made. No stats can rehabilitate LeBron's impression on those that watched him...only maybe two or three generations from now...where people just see YouTube clips.

But anyone who watched his career...it was more Kobe and less Magic, Larry, Jordan and Russell.

By whom? You? Nothing new there. There's a reason all things are looked at with suspicion. The subjectivity of all human thought is only introduced with extreme bias. That prejudice usually walks into the room 5 minutes before a coherent thought can come out of a person's mouth.

Apparently you did not read the quotes I provided by all-time legends which trash LeBron, all I can say and will say is that legends ABSOLUTELY DID NOT talk smack about Larry, even Michael Jordan win Larry

That's all he can strive for because apparently D-Wade, Paul Pierce, Hakeem, Dennis Rodman, Phil Jackson, etc don't think so and I don't either unless he turns back the clock and plays like MJ circa 1988 on both ends for an entire season no load managing

FIFY

what didn't MJ have? He's probably the most perfect basketball player we've seen and will see: perfect shooting form, perfect defensive technique, perfect footwork, underrated passer, underrated rebounder despite standing 6'6 in a big man era, overcompetitive, never gave you the feeling he didn't give a shite, perfect athletic grace. LeBron might be the greatest physical specimen we've ever seen on a basketball court but I've pointed out his deficiencies multiple times so I can't give him such a lofty nod. It is what it is.

objective in this particular comparison is relative, at least with Larry I know I have a 3 pt and FT shooting whiz who will give every ounce of his being to win a game and talk trash while doing it and that goes for every game. A lot of times IDK what I get with LeBron, sometimes I get a lot of excuses by and for him, it's pathetic.
