I know that was a terrible tragedy, but can you remind me of the details of that? Wasn’t she caught in some crossfire? And wasn’t she outside? What’s sad is that I have to even as this as her particular story has been swallowed up in the madness that is 2020 America.
I was absolutely furious when those 2 guys killed that black young man in Georgia earlier, and the DA’s office tried to sweep it under the rug. I spent literally hours reading up on Georgia statutes and discussing it here. Something about it just really pissed me off. But as soon as George Floyd happened, the world forgot about Ahmaud Arbery. All these individual tragedies have been absorbed into one and co-opted by the left. They are merely political pawns being used to further their agenda, which actually compounds their tragedies. It’s terribly sad.

I think that you are taking his quote the wrong way. They’ve all said it themselves, they are standing up for people who are being held back and oppressed. Most of them realize that they are the privileged ones

No, I understand what he meant. The question of the thread title is rhetorical. I’m just using it to start a bigger discussion. While we’re talking about quotes from that montage again, there’s another one that is worrisome as I think it reflects a lot of what is going on.
I don’t know who it was, but I’ll paraphrase: “I don’t have all the answers, but I’m a black man and I feel a certain way.” On its face, nothing wrong with it. I’m sure as a black man, he does feel a certain way right now. But is it that he doesn’t know the answers or that he doesn’t know the questions and is just falling in line because he thinks he’s “supposed” to?
It looks like most of the protestors are just following the crowd, not really fully understanding why, not knowing the questions. And for those that do know the questions, where are their answers, the solutions they want to see? Are they waiting for people manning the systems they hate (systemic racism) to come up with the answers for them? That’s absurd. It’s equally absurd to protest for an abstract idea like “social justice,” “peace,” “equality,” “police brutality,” whatever. If it’s not concrete and quantifiable, they’re just tilting at windmills.

LMPD lied to obtain a warrant for her apartment, claiming that the US Postmaster verified suspicious packages from a drug dealer she knew in her past was at her home. The US Postmaster has since publicly come out and said they never confirmed that information (as written in the warrant) and that another agency had inquired and they found no evidence of that occurring. LMPD performed a no knock warrant in plain clothes with no camera/video. Her boyfriend thought it was someone trying to break in and he fired a shot. They fired back. She was killed. They also did not offer her medical assistance as she laid dying in her apartment. The boyfriend was initially arrested for attempted murder of an officer, but the charges were dropped as evidence showed he was just a man exercising his 2nd Amendment right to defend his home (as a non-felon, he was perfectly within his means to legally have that firearm as well). No drugs were found in the apartment. The drug dealer involved with the case had already been detained and was in jail when the warrant was executed. And it took the George Floyd incident to even bring hers to light. LMPD was in the process of sweeping it under the rug.
Considering Mitchell spends some time here still in Louisville, I can understand his concern.

I’ve never stepped foot in Kentucky, much less Louisville, and I’m concerned. That’s a horrible story. It’s an inexcusable mistake and everyone involved should be prosecuted. But it was a mistake, done out of incompetence rather than racism. Her being black was not a contributing factor.
I totally support police reform and increasing the standards for LEOs everywhere (though I actually think we should increase funding for police in order to both provide better training and attracting a higher level of candidates). But perpetuating this myth that black people are being hunted by police is just wrong. And dangerous. For everybody.
Btw, 9 murders in Chicago this weekend (making 433 for the year), including a cute 7-year-old black boy. He was in own home. Killed by a stray bullet in crossfire. Likely gang-related. I wonder how many NBA players will have his name on their shoes tonight?

While what he said was completely ridiculous, I know that DM wasn’t talking about himself. My thread title was an admittedly intentional misdirect to discuss the bigger issue of what people with the biggest platforms—specifically NBA players here—are saying with those platforms, and are they saying it responsibly.

I wonder how much he knows about the prejudice the Mormon population is to non Mormons. Add on top of that the racial makeup of the Northwest it shouldn't be shocking if he gets looks. Not justifying prejudice but people have got to start using logic when they're talking about this stuff. It's getting so over the top hyperbolic. Most people aren't racist and further it's probably not even a fraction of people in the US. All people are prejudiced in some way so maybe GTF over yourself and be normal.
