Four of those five QBs played at least the majority of their careers in a completely different era for QBs and pass defense than Marino.

According to the NFL, he's one of the Top 10 greatest of all-time.
The NFL 100 All-Time Team QBs were:
Sammy Baugh
Tom Brady
John Elway
Brett Favre
Otto Graham
Peyton Manning
Dan Marino
Joe Montana
Roger Staubach
Johnny Unitas

I’ve been fortunate enough to catch a few games in person over the years and (so far anyway) two players stick in my mind where TV couldn’t do justice to seeing them perform live: Jerry Rice (the effortless fluidity with which he ran) and Marino (the bullets that flew off with the seeming mere flick of his wrist).
Marino’s gift ended up being his curse (as far as winning championships). He and the Dolphins were good enough and won enough games that the franchise never felt necessary and made the couple of additional moves necessary (imo) to win a title.
In that respect his career mirrored most of John Elway’s own career. The difference being that towards the end of Elway’s career the Broncos made some moves to build a full complimentary team (running the ball and defense) and sent Elway off with a couple of titles whereas the Dolphins never did.
Great, great QB nonetheless. Marino was fun to watch.

Great, now prove that TD/INT ratio is the one stat that determines how good a QB was.
Every INT is an opportunity for your opponent to score……that’s a significant stat.

He threw for over 5K yards and 48TDs in 1984.
His ‘84 season is the greatest season any QB has ever had in my opinion.
He led the league in passing yards, yards per attempt, TDs, and QB rating. He not only led the league in all those categories, but there was a big gap between Marino and second place.
Marino threw for 5,000 yds. Only two other QBs broke 4,000.
Marino had 48 TD passes. Second place had 32.
1984 also cast a shadow over the rest of his career. It was only his second season. He led the league in passing a few more times, but never again equaled his 1984 numbers.
That was also the Dolphins last Super Bowl appearance. Shula and the Dolphins had 4 Super Bowl appearances and two victories in the decade prior to drafting Marino. Everyone thought at the time they would go on a similar run with Marino.

never saw sammy baugh.
nice list for sure.
for you youngsters Otto Graham was a great story.
champion of an upstart league, nfl let the whole cleveland team in.
nfl used to have a "rookies vs last season champs" game at the hall of fame game. graham and some of his experienced team played for the nfl rookies. rookies crushed green bay. graham went on to win a couple nfl championships.

I guess we need an asterisk by every QB that played before or after what year? You choose.

No, you're just fixated on a stat that's a dumb stat to single out. If the all-time top ten is all people who played last year, it's an obviously terrible way to compare QBs over eras.
Still waiting for your argument that Russell Wilson is the 3d best QB of all time, and that Jared Goff is better (significantly better) than Joe Montana, btw.

I’m not saying Marino is not HOF, what I’m seeing in this thread is many people are pumping Marino up into the top 5 of all time with the greatest arm ever…..can’t be true with that poor of TD to INT ratio friend. I wonder how many points were scored off those Marino INTs? That may be an interesting stat in itself.

Whatever spot you place Philip Rivers at, i'd put Marino one spot above him.

QB’s friends…
Good D and running game.
I’m a little foggy but do not recall great of either during Marino years.
Less foggy folks keep me honest if this ain’t right.

I see what you're doing here and I like it. Have to wonder how many people are about to make themselves look very, very foolish in this thread.

What Staubach did in the defense overpowering dead ball era 70s is amazing. You could seriously make an argument for him and Unitas as first picks in an All-time draft to play in any era.

Without going back to Unitas or Otto Graham, the top QBs in no order IMO are:
Manning, Brady, Brees, Marino, Elway, Montana, Favre, Warner and Rodgers.
So Marino is top 10. Not top 3, but borderline top 5. Somewhere in that 4-7 range likely.

Gotta have Staubach and Bradshaw in that mix.

Behind Drew Brees, he had 4 inches on him and accomplished less
