Where does Champ Bailey rank on the all time list for Corner?

Feel like he doesn't get enough appreciation for what he did with the Broncos in his prime and was screwed out of Defensive Player of the Year in 2006 (Jason Taylor won w/ 13.5 Sacks, 9 Forced Fumbles, 2 INT, 2 TD). From 2005-2009, half of the Broncos defensive backfield was off limits and it felt any time they tested him, he would come up with a play. Also remember his Catching Stat on Madden being 81

I know Deion is considered the GOAT cover corner (Champ was the more complete player) but Champ was the first one I remember announcers saying "he didn't allow a pass completed to his side over 10 yards" or "he didn't allow a TD to his side of the field the entire season"
After Champ's prime, we always heard about Darrell Revis followed by Richard Sherman.

I still can't believe the Redskins traded him for Clinton Portis.

Kept the Broncos relevant for years in the post-Elway era

Champ Bailey was a fricking animal. Better than Sherman better than Revis imo. I would honestly say he’s the 2nd best corner of all time behind sanders. 1st ballot hall of famer who’s somehow forgotten because of the position and team he played for at that time. All time great player who shut down his side of the field.

Great CB, I just think he’s not as highly rated or was as great as Rod Woodson or Darrell Green

My thoughts exactly.

He had 24 pass break ups in 2002 alone and yet wasn’t a first team all-pro like frick lol

Definitely high on the list of guys you don't even think about now that were all time greats.

I would take Darrell Green over any other CB. Ultimate team guy and a legend. First ballot HOF. 20 seasons all with the same team. Numerous records and the fastest man to ever play. Bailey's mentor and the guy he credits a lot of success to..

How could anyone ever forget him
He could chase down any player from any spot on the field in Madden 2007
99 Overall and 98 Speed

You MIGHT. Could argue, and I mean MIGHT, that revis was better but Sherman? He was zone, system corner who talked a lot of shite and was good at the one thing he did well but was in no way a lockdown corner. Known more for his post game rants and playoff performance than anything else. Good for him but not a GOAT

He posts here. He’ll probably see this thread eventually.

If I'm drawing up a defensive backfield purely of players I watched in their prime, give me (Denver) Bailey and (Jets) Revis outside with (Green Bay) Woodson in the slot.

Definitely better than Sherman and probably about even with peak Revis, IMO. I think people forget how good Revis was in the 2008-2011ish range.
Bailey and Revis are two of the five best to ever play the position. Sherman is not in that conversation.
