That turning off the offense in the 3rd quarter (too risky!) and turning the ball over to the defense to nurse a lead out to win a game is a LOSING strategy in a league with liberalized passing rules and shields of protection surrounding quarterbacks and wide receivers?

I’ve watched todays movie so many times before.

A good defense is a must-have, there is no doubt, but you HAVE TO KEEP SCORING. You don’t get extra credit at the end of the game for winning the TOP battle.

Idiocy.

Are you suggesting that Blake Bortles should have had more pass attempts inthe 2nd half?

Well it would have been preferable to requiring him to do it with less than 3:00 and no margin for error and the opposing defense knowing with certainty he had to throw it, don’t you think?

Bortles was playing fine until they were asking him to only throw it on 3rd and long.

Taking a knee at halftime with 0:50 and two timeouts left was worse than the 4th quarter play calling.

50 seconds and two TOs at the end of the half, they had Bortles kneel

All of you above (except one) make good points: TRY TO SCORE WHEN YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY IN A CLOSE GAME.

Against the Saints, that’s enough time to score twice.

Patriots totally sold out to stop the run, yet they kept running into brick walls

Instead of running up the gut into a stacked box on 1st over and over?

Yes.

Jacksonville got here by grinding it out on the ground. That is who they are so going away from that while up 10 would be crazy.

That would describe your post.

You act as though scoring is a given. The Jaguars didn't get conservative. Heck, you could argue they weren't conservative enough. They were throwing the ball on 1st and 2nd down in the 4th quarter which gave the Patriots more time due to incompletions.

This may be difficult for you, but the Patriots coming back wasn't due to playcalling.

Like I said, you're an idiot.

Its not a given.

It is a 99.999% certainty, however, that if you are not making a genuine effort to score against other NFL playoff teams, you're not going to score.

Bortles played awesome. Even on the ones he missed it wasn't because he made a bad throw

The only time they didn't make a genuine effort to score was when they knelt right before halftime.

If you can give another example, I will take back calling you an idiot.
