Yeah, good question. The narrative we have now got out there so early and so effectively that the precedent it set will be hard to walk back. And it will be a painfully slow and incremental process that could take years.

I typically go to 2-3 Cubs series per year but of course could not last year. I'd like to go this summer but the experience even by then will I'm afraid be so tempered as to wonder if it will be worth the expense. Guess we'll try one (if allowed) early and see how it goes.

Everything is dependent upon the vaccines, and how soon those get dispersed.

Stadiums not opening up before the CDC says so, that much is clear at this point.

I like the empty NFL stadiums where defensive units celebrate and pose after a turnovers in front of cardboards.

Athletes are like children in many ways. They need to have a pep rally every 5 minutes to do their job. Celebrate achievements by jumping around and acting like fools. About the same mental capacity as well.

With the vaccine starting to reach the general public this week, when is the earliest you see things start returning back to normal as far as large gatherings/crowd sizes go? I’m crossing my fingers for August

For MLB this summer: The partial attendance thing that football did will carry through, maybe full attendance by playoffs.

For start of NFL next year, there will be a push for full attendance from the start. NFL has decent leverage. I can see KC leading the charge again here like they did with partial attendance this fall, as the Missouri/Kansas political climate is much closer to handling the step out vs. say NYC or Cali.

A key rhetorical win for team "open it up" will be once adults can just sign up to take the vaccine, which, depending on how many in the 65+ crowd decline to take it may be sooner than we think. Johnson and Johnson should be coming on line too in the next month or two - and that may be a single dose.

As for if things will return to "normal", probably not - there will be some element of the pandemic/response that sticks around a-la 9/11. But those elements won't act to slow down the speed of money circulation in the economy. I can see virus theater joining security theater (temperature checks, etc..) globally for a long while.

Ehhhh...

How many governments have seen a drastic increase in their power, unchecked, and then voluntarily given it back to the people without bloodshed in the history of the world?

Very, very rarely.

I do think we will eventually shift back to some level of relative normalcy, but the effects of this will be felt for the rest of our lives.

I THINK you'll see partial to full stadiums in red states for next NFL season and very light attendance in blue states.

Physiological factors or psychological factors?

Do you think the effects of WWII, Pearl Harbor, Flu pandemic of 1918 and 9/11 were felt for the rest of people’s lives?

I think one thing we can all agree on is no one truly knows the answer.

But, my goodness is this thread full of doom and gloom.

Maybe. But also remember, teams and facilities eliminated full capacity before any government mandated shutdowns. It was their personal choice to shut things down, based on the CDC guidelines.

Stadiums not being at full capacity is not the full fault of the government as some seem to believe. Once the CDC and health officials state that it is safe to open at full capacity, then that will happen. It may be a thing where in order to buy online tickets, we may have to provide proof of vaccinations or antibodies, that is plausible imo. But the idea that state officials will be directly going against the CDC saying full capacity is 100%, and they will still keep businesses shut down. No I don't buy that for a second.

You honestly think politicians have such a control boner right now that they'd continue to intentionally hurt their cities and their people in perpetuity even after the virus is under control with a working vaccine? What sane person can reason that in their brain to make any sense? What politician would stand a chance in reelection when their constituents are easily able to stay informed about infection rates and vaccine efficacy? You think the entire world is gonna do the same shite? And if not, that Americans will see everyone else around them getting back to normal and just accept that they aren't allowed to? Use your fricking brain man. I can't imagine being as miserable as you. Find some fun hobbies that don't involve the internet.

Has there been any confirmed cases of Covid spreading from attendees at football games inside or outside ?

Does that matter? Every bit of reporting and stat compiling has been fudged and politicized. You think the statists care about facts?

Holy shite Dick Pound is an incredible name.

But my man, if an article about a guy stating he's unsure that the summer Olympics can be held in 6 months in a country where cases are surging and we are still in the early stages with the vaccine has you convinced that politicians are abusing power and not trying to act in the interest of public health, I don't think there's a thing anyone on this planet could say to you that would change your mind.

Are you paying attention to what's going on in Washington, with Big Tech, and the media right now? Like literally right this second.

Unlike a lot of people on this thread apparently, I will assume we'll have decent sized crowds available sometime this fall as we reach herd immunity. Cases will begin to drop dramatically by April and we'll reach herd immunity by August.

I know Ticket Master is working on a way to allow entrance to only those who can prove vaccination. That's another option that will speed up getting people into live events. I would assume the major conferences for people around the globe will resume starting in 2022.
