What's the best way for a player to get noticed by college coaches?

I would think it would be worth the money spent to go to the camp of a school you liked.

Kids who can make all-state as soph or junior tend to get noticed.

What else should they do? Random Tuesday topic.

Get their high school/travel team/club coach to talk to some of their connections.

Attend Sparq events if for some reason you think your kid is some sleeper athlete.

Mostly, if you're that good then you're going to get noticed and get invited to the stuff anyways.

Not true. I had a teammate who was all-state Freshman, sophomore and senior year, due to a torn ACL his junior season, and he had one division one offer (Baylor), but he did start all four years.

I was also a second-team all-state player in Texas and only had preferred walk on offers.

Absolutely. If you are good, they will notice. These camps tend to play lots of scrimmages, and the top players stick out. When I went to a camp in 7th grade, there were two kids in particular who the coaches were very intrigued by.

Exactly. I covered a lot of the recruiting of Jarrett Stidham, the now Baylor QB, and it's well known around the people who know the story of Jarrett that Art Briles said he was going to be a top prospect when he was in 8th grade.

I guess that's what I'm leading to. It seems that by 8-10th grade, the blue chip players have been indentified. How do they get on the radar?

I've always heard if you're good enough you'll get noticed, but college coaches aren't watching middle school games.

Post links to your player's HUDL video on the SECRecruiting Board every week, for about a year.

the guys that find those kids are pretty good at what they do and who they network with.

If a kid has the skills and talent - they will find him/her.

You coach right? How's that work with small schools who don't send lots of kids to college and don't have well established relationships?

Just curious. Not asking for anyone in particular just trying to generate conversation.

Seems like a big program who gets a young kid who can immediately play varsity would know what they have.

It depends on the sport. For all the hate it gets the open season in AAU basketball in April and July gives a lot of kids exposure to college coaches.

Camps.

If the athlete is good enough, a lot of college programs have advanced camps that players are invited to.

If players stick out in those advanced camps, they'll typically be approached by coaches, have transcripts/test scores requested, coaches will tell the athlete they'll keep an eye on them, or the coaches might just offer the player if they stand out above the rest at the camp.

If you have to actively promote the kid, he's not going anywhere worth going to
