Bunch of my loser friends from high school thrive on wearing that A so they can now be "better" than the rest of us LSU losers.

I think it's mainly a southern douchebag thing. Guy I went to school with never once mentioned Bama and now he wears Bad jackass so it makes sense that he'd go that route. ma gear and even has an A on his truck. He's just a weird jackass.

Every fanbase has crazy bandwagon.

I thought it would be Bama...but the internet polls and Facebook junk data...say...

The Most non-alumni fans:

1. TAMU

Apparently with TAMU fans...almost nobody ever went to the school...ever. Is it just a hate UT thing?

I frickin love being from Alabama. Even if we didn't have football I'd still rather be from Alabama than any place on earth. Where I live, there's no race problems, virtually no crime, good people that will bend over backwards for people they don't even know to help, great food, beautiful women, beautiful trees, and that's really all there is to life.

Sure I take vacations to other states, but I always wanna come back home to Alabama. And I would hope all people can say the same about their state.

But to say we are the worst state, makes me think you just hate our football team, a lot. Which is true I'm sure for most Alabama haters. But by all means, keep hating and stay out of our great state.

well that speaks more to you, Minkah Fitzpatrick has been a household name for 3 years now

I’m being 100% honest when I say I had no idea who that was. At first I thought you made it up as a joke, and I watch college football every week.

As a non-Southerner, mizzoubuckeyeiowa has been preaching a whole lot of truth in this thread.

Who do you got ?

I'd take 2012 Alabama over 2011 Alabama every day.

and Alabama is always used at the Poster Child of Racism in football. They've even written books about it. The day Alabama gave up...or the Day they integrated...Sam Bam...whatever...after they got butt-whooped again.

Those "authors" must have done absolutely zero research.

Anywhere you find white trash in the south, you'll find Alabama bandwagon fans but I think you bring up a good point.

I don't think they have the flash or urban appeal of those Florida State and Miami teams.

Maybe we'll start seeing it more because I think a lot of bandwagon fans are created as kids.

I'm not sure that is 100% true, especially when it comes to Miami. At the same time Miami was garnering a huge nationwide following in CFB, there was a huge upswing in popularity of Raiders gear (maybe not as much fandom, but certainly gear) across the country. Why? Because they had moved to LA and the west coast rappers were wearing Raider gear.

Kids across the country saw these guys wearing it and thought if they wore it too they would be cool.

I'll defend Alabama and Louisiana to outsiders (I still don't want to live there). There isn't much to defend about about Miss.

As other posters have pointed out, Miami had the flash, sizzle, and swag and really married college football and urban, hip-hop culture. No college team really did that before them so it was hugely appealing. Notre Dame has been discussed to their appeal to Catholics nationwide. They had the first national TV contract and their image was the pious good guys who would kick arse on Saturdays so that was appealing.

Bama has had more success than either of those teams but its appeal as a national brand, at least historically, was limited although that seems to be changing. It has always been a national brand to those who follow college football but you wouldn't expect to see kids or sidewalks in LA, Chicago, or Brooklyn to be sporting Bama gear.

Bama has always been the touchstone program representing the South so that might mean something different to people in other regions of the country. Not really fair but that is the way it is....Bama will never be about swag or flash because that was an is an anathema to coaches like Bryant and Saban.

Bama is a national brand insofar as it is known as a death star of a college program....but it is cold, clinical, and methodical like its leader. I will say to those who say that Bama is not a national brand, the cornerstone of this years recruiting class, Tua and Najee, are from Hawaii and San Francisco Bay area so that perception is obviously out there.

Notre dame, has every Catholic in the country rooting for them, miami and fsu are both seen as florida schools so national perception is that they are located in a trendy area regardless of the fact that fsu is definitely not, being located in tallahassee. Usc would be the same thing. On a national level, bama is seen as a backwater redneck fanbase and state, something a lot of people outside of the south would never bandwagon. Nebraska was similar in 90s.
