Notre Dame and Florida State in early to mid-90’s?

You’d think with their recent dominance, people nationwide would be hopping onto their fan base and wearing Alabama gear.

I recall so many people across the US back in the early to mid 90’s with Notre Dame, FSU and especially Miami gear.

Pretty sure they've reached that already.

For Notre Dame it's the NBC contract that makes them so popular just like the Cubs and WGN

I see Alabama logos on shirts and cars pretty much every single day.

Every sports store I've been to in Florida has Alabama apparel right in the mix with UF and FSU stuff.

Marshall's will have displays of UF and FSU plates and shite and there is usually Alabama shite right next to them.

Literally the only positive thing Alabama has going for it nationally is college football. On all other fronts it’s considered a shitty backwards place associated with the worst parts of our history.

So their exclusive TV deals had nothing to do with this?
When they were the only team on ABC from the 50's on and then NBC from the 90's on, it will garner some fans.

Miami's appeal was to young black kids and urban white kids who hated or eschewed the traditionalism of college football in the early 1980's. They revolutionized college football by, in a sense, fusing it with hip-hop culture. Even at traditional, southern football schools today, you hear hip-hop music all the time. That's the U's influence imo. Miami's bandwagon fan status is as much cultural as anything else.

I think a non-southerner would be embarrassed to be seen in Alabama gear to be honest

Alabama has a pretty terrible stigma against it that I think most bandwagon types would choose to avoid

Idk man, here in NY theres a shite ton of em.

And a good portion of em have never stepped foot in the state or went to school there.

Of course they are dwarfed by ND, Penn State and Michigan fans.

Still a nice amount.
