Quite possibly the stupidest thread.

I'd lose all my balls by the 4th hole and be forced to forfeit.

None of us could handle a gallery....teeing off through a shoot of people, etc.

That would be scary - for the spectators - they would need full body armor with me on the course.

I'm amazed how close people actually are to being in the line-of-fire off the tee boxes. IF (not likely) a pro would have some kind of physical problem that would throw them off just before impact, someone could get killed or badly injured. Maybe the pro would be able to stop himself from hitting unless it was too late.

Please tell me where I said that a scratch golf can be competitive on tour OR where a scratch golf can be competitive at The Masters???

In order to shoot lower than a 90 at the Masters (not just at Augusta National, but AT THE MASTERS--with the gallery, the pressure of playing against Tiger, Phil, Vijay, Ernie, etc), one has to be able to play COMPETITIVELY on the tour. If you don't have that ability, then you won't be able to deal with all of the other factors involved there.

That's why I said that you're kidding yourself earlier.

like flush lies everywhere, perfect greens, and a good complimentary breakfast.....yea i can break a 100

if i played every par 4 as a par 5 and every par 5 as a par 6 I wouldnt shoot more than +5 on the par 5 and 6's and then i could just bogey every par 3 for 99

You are severely underestimating the pressure, distractions, and other factors that will add strokes to your game if you're not used to it.

You are severely underestimating the gap between a PGA tour card holder and everyone else.

In all honestly, I think a scratch golfer could shoot in the low to mid 80s in tournament conditions. From tee to green it is easier than a regualr US Open layout. The greens are very tricky, but a scratch golfer can get it around there in a decent number.

I'd probably shoot somewhere around 100-110. I could play some pansy arse shite and try for bogey golf the entire round but that would be stupid.

FWIW, my dad (5 hdcp) played Sawgrass from the tips and said he shot the best 91 of his life.

I'd say 150-160 for me. It would be brutal.

To the contrary, the essentially made Tiger one of the few that can win there.

Really? Mike Weir? Zach Johnson? Trevor Immelman? I'd say they've done a great job "tiger-proofing" the course(though I think it's bullshite). If they hadn't touched it since '97, he might be going for his 9th/10th jacket instead of his 5th.

So there's a good comparison. If a 5 can shoot 91 at Sawgrass, then I'm thinking you could break 90 at Augusta. I'd like to think I could break 100. I'd be happy with anything under 110, though.

Sam Snead sliced one 80 yds off the 1st tee during the ceremonial first drives a few yrs ago, hit a spec in the head and almost killed him. They stopped the tradition with all past champions after that.

Sophandros - how many shots do you think this "added presure" would add to ones score. I played there a month ago. I shot 78. I am a washed up golfer who is probably a legit 3 handicap. I putted terrible that day. I just do not think that the added presure would add 20 shots to my score.

The course will be harder (read shorter) this week. On average that would be about a club less a hole (help my score 2 shots). So now we are at 76. In tournament conditions, I would not go for 15 in two (help my score 1 shot) we are at 75. I am sure the pins would be in harder spots, I had five threeputts when I played - let's double that (hurt my score 5 shots). So we are at 80 (with putting terrible - I had 37 putts when I played would have 42 putts in this example). I just do not think that this added presure you talk about will make my score go up 20 shots. Maybe I am crazy but I do not see it.

And remember I am currently not a scratch golfer. Let's see what Wilson shoots. He is about a scratch player. I will even spot you a few shots and says he breaks 90 both days.

I've always thought the crowds would help me, in a normal round, I'll have at least 1 "lost ball" that really wouldn't be lost if I had a spotter or gallery down there in the landing area. That's two strokes to my benefit right there.
