What would Urban Meyer do with Nick Saban's talent?

That's a question Stephen A. Smith just asked on his show. I wasn't aware that Meyer was such an awful recruiter. How many players does Ohio State put into the NFL year in and year out?

Only once since he's been at Ohio State has he had a class finish outside of the Top 5 in the recruiting rankings.

I think it's time to wake up and realize that Meyer isn't as good as Saban. He's great but he's not on the same level as Saban. Saban doesn't get blown out by 31 points to an unranked team. In fact...Saban hasn't been blown out a single time since he got to Alabama. His worst loss has been by 14 points.

2008 Florida was more talented than any team Saban's had at Alabama. That team was so loaded they had Cam Newton as a backup QB.

Have a heart attack like event if he played that many at once in the 4th Qtr of the national title game.

I think we can put this to rest. No one in college is.

However, you've got to admit that Saban is straregic in where he has gone.

Could he win like this at Penn State, Washington, Nebraska...I don't think so.

Yeah, Saban is the only coach strategically not going to Nebraska

He'd win like crazy at PSU.

It isn't a talent issue in any way, it's an opportunity and taking advantage of them.

If you want to compare 2016/2017, Saban won the thing when people thought his team shouldn't get in, Meyer lost 31-0

Saban has had "luck" to get in potentially in 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2017. He damn well took those opportunities and won the whole thing when he got there.

2012 was "luck" because OSU wasn't bowl eligible.

2015 took a 4th and 25 miracle by Arky to get them into the SECCG.

As I said, Bama takes advantage but they have gotten some great breaks. You probably would be able to say similar things about anyone who had won that much if you really wanted to

I don't think anyone can really answer that question. No coach has been able to "win like this" ever. It took Bryant 23 years to win his 6 national titles while Saban has won 6 in 11. I'm not trying to get into the debate about who is better between the 2, but Saban is winning at a pace no one has ever won at before. It makes it nearly impossible to say he couldn't win at unprecedented paces elsewhere when he's winning at an unprecedented pace where he's currently coaching.

I see, I see.

Most every undefeated or 1 loss team will have those moments.

As I said you can nitpick anyone who has that much success, it's just no one else has that much success

Saban is obviously the GOAT but he has also had the number one recruiting class 7 years in a row.

That's part of the job. If you want to win championships in college the first thing you have to do is recruit good players. Even then, you need to be good enough as a coach to develop that talent to its full potential.
