Had a lot of fun going to them as a kid. I know a lot of my friends did too. Cheap entertainment option and the games were a blast.

Looks like they folded because when George Shinn moved the Charlotte Hornets to New Orleans he couldn’t agree with stadium and team officials on who would be responsible for changing the ice back to a court and vice versa.

Could it ever come back?

It’s never coming back.

The ECHL was incredible though. Lafayette, Baton Rouge, Gulfport, Mobile, Pensacola, Tallahassee, etc having teams was awesome.

They need home ice that's feasible for them. Though the emphasis on preventing concussions may hurt them in that fighting will start to be deemphasized in hockey.

Brass in the Municipal Auditorium>>>>Brass in the arena.

Those old games were so easy to get in and out of, you were right on top of the ice from anywhere in the building, and they were cheap as hell. It was a ton of fun. Got kind of sterile once they moved.

Baton Rouge Kingfish games were awesome. Cam Brown needs a statute somewhere in Baton Rouge.

Things I remember from Kingfish games:

Cotton Eyed Joe
Closest to the pin puck toss
The blimp that flew around and dropped Picadilly coupons
Cam Brown
Mardi Gras uniforms
The spotlights
Them losing
Being stuck in traffic in the Centroplex parking garage for hours after the game

You’d first need to bring back the IceGators to beat the Brass everytime they play.

The IceGators came back for a while as part of some shitty Southern Professional Hockey League. They shut down not too long ago.
quote:

On May 16, 2016, the IceGators' general manager and the SPHL announced that the team is suspending operations for the 2016–17 SPHL season due to planned Cajundome renovations. However, sometime after the announcement, the team shut down its headquarters, the website was taken down, and the team has not indicated a return. In 2018, the franchise was sold and became the Quad City Storm.

Lol

The Mississippi Sea Wolves were the last of the “I-10” ECHL teams around. They made it all the way until 2009. Me and a friend went to a couple of games that last season and it was a good time.

Pro hockey is really good in person. Might be something that could thrive in New Orleans.

If we had a team, what league would they play in?

To my knowledge there’s no hockey teams anywhere around here, aside from Pensacola.

And where would they play? Certainly not downtown. The only feasible places for an arena/rink would be in Jefferson Parish or the Northshore. I seriously doubt it would be anywhere near worth the cost.

I enjoyed going to a few of the Brass games at both arenas, but I just don’t ever see something like that happening here again.

It really was incredible. Still have my Mobile Mysticks jersey. Great entertainment. Reasonably priced. Watching hockey in person is a totally different experience.

I even went to a few "road" games in Pensacola and Mississippi. Heck, Pensacola would sell out.

I think the Combination of over saturation and the novelty wearing off killed the team in Mobile

The American Hockey League has three teams in Texas and another in Oklahoma.

Same in BR. They had a good 3-4 year run where the attendance was decent, but the team was not very good and was probably the lowest scoring team in the league, so they weren't a lot of fun to watch.

The fan base was dominated with rednecks who showed up hoping to see a fight. It is funny how the fad played itself out at almost exactly the same time in all of the I-10 towns.

You are so right abt being right on top of the ice.
You could just freely walk around too and find a seat .

What was that enforcer dudes name.
He was a defensemen

Obviously, they'd need a new owner...since the old one is now in federal prison.

ETA: St. Augustine was right...Brass games at the Arena were good but they were really fun at the Municipal Auditorium. You definitely had a feel there that the crowd was part of the game. Those "I-10" rivalries were the best. Took a trip to Biloxi with friends a couple of times to watch the Brass play Mississippi at the Coliseum and stay at the casinos after.

Las Vegas had an ECHL team before the Golden Knights started. They played at the Orleans Arena but games there weren't nearly as fun as Brass games back in the day. One exception was that one game every year just before Christmas, they'd have a "casino workers" special game where puck drop would at 11:59pm. Definitely was an interesting people watching experience.

Damn, I'm old...I can remember going to New Orleans Jazz games at the Auditorium.

This thread just sent me down a 2 hour rabbit hole reading about the old ECHL teams and then minor league baseball in Louisiana. I enjoyed going to Sea Wolves and Brass games.

I’m also looking forward to the Rougarou coming to Baton Rouge. I used to love going to the Alexandria Aces games in the 90s. I miss Aces baseball.

When I lived in Metry, brah...I was close to Zephyr Field, so I went to a lot of games there. Some Friday night if I didn't make the games, I'd go to the Daiquiris place right across the street to grab a drink and watch the fireworks. Good times.

I assume that they're looking to get a AA team to replace the team with the moronic name that'll be moving soon.

There’s a team here in Wichita that’s tons of fun to watch. Never got to go to the ice gators so they were my first team to watch in person
