Cost high? Did anyone think that 10-15 years ago that pricey local baseball/soccer/gymnastics/etc. academies would be chock full of kids - not all of them top players? Parents have proven that they will pay whatever it takes.

Take that another step. I can see the day, the big shoe companies will identify young talent 7th, 8th grade, and finance IMG like academies and those same kids will be getting "scholarships" to further their "education".

Not all will be top dog like IMG, and much cheaper to operate. They'll be collecting talent and putting kids up in dorms. European soccer clubs have been doing this for years.

Mind you, if you had 3 schools in LA (NOLA, BR/LFT, SHV), that would be, and 3 in each MS and AL, you could have a drivable 9 team league - they wouldn't have to play any HS teams. And those teams would be really good, playing against other good teams - all the time.

3 schools - 150 football players - 30 hoops players - 60 baseball players

That's not a lot of players, and most could still live at home. As a total of all HS players, that's not a lot percentagewise. But if they are all the BEST players, what will be left to the high schools after the studs are cherry picked?

One day, we may say that we didn't see that coming. But Uber is worth billions. 5 years ago, who knew what a Uber was? If the money is there (and it will be), this will may happen. For the shoe companies, it's chump change. Just never, ever say "Never".

Take a deep breath. None of that will destroy high school sports. You know why? Those 3 academies you described might have room for 80 kid rosters. Tens of thousands play across the state. Kids are still going to go out for football. It's like saying the rise of rugby and lacrosse is going to hurt football. Hell, Jesuit has gotten better since those sports came around at their school.

You fail to see the point. I guess you think the scab teams or USFL was a 1 for 1 substitute for the real NFL.

Of course, less talented kids would take the spots of the studs and other moms and pops would attend. But it would be a lesser product. Nothing wrong with that.

Maybe that is the better solution. Get all of the top talent to the academies and then you won't have to worry about recruiting anymore. Then HS sports will just be fun, like intramurals.

College baseball should be a failure by your standards.

yeah, "just moms and pops" attend games at a lot of community schools that average 1 D1 per decade... those schools ensure there will always be HS football no matter what
