So Phil, who has 4 majors, is better than Tiger Woods, who has 14?

So, by your logic, it's possible that LeBron James is better than Michael Jordan?

This week he's clearly better but that's kinda the point.

Phil hasn't done much more than Tiger has over the last few years playing in the majors and here he is with a chance to win. So it is stupid to think the #1 ranked player in the world couldn't do the same.

Does one week make you the overall better golfer?

They are two very different people.

Tiger fans are doing their best to rationalize tiger's chances at getting to 19 by comparing him to phil.

That's awesome.

If we are talking about this week, then yes.

And that's all he said.

The point of this thread is that TIGER HAS LOST IT and I don't know if he can get it back enough to beat Jacks record.. I mean that's all he is really playing for now. RIGHT????????????????/ What else does he have to prove..................

I don't think he has lost it.

The only reason I brought up Phil is just to give an example of a player going a few years between majors...and that's only if Phil goes on to win today. Did anybody honestly think coming into this week that Phil's chances were better than Tigers?

And if Phil goes on to win I don't see what would be so absurd about using that to justify Tiger's chances of winning a few more. Phil is one of the all time greats. Multiple tourney winner. Multiple major winner. And Tiger is better than he is. So if Phil can still win a major then I'm pretty sure Tiger still can.

He is still one of the best in the world. But that's the problem, he is no longer the clear cut best like he was. And that's why he won't win 5 more.

5 majors by itself is a hall of fame career.

I never said it's impossible for tiger to win one more major.

Phil being in contention today does nothing to support an argument for tiger winning 5 more. In fact it argues against it.

I'm not even arguing that Tiger can or can't win 5 more. Just disputing Peej's stupid notion that Tiger has lost "it". Whatever the frick "it" is.

Tiger knew when he woke up this morning he had no chance of winning so its understandable his focus isn't entirely there. But the fact that he's had such a good year suggests he isn't done yet. Majors are hard to win, it kind of puts into perspective what he's been able to accomplish throughout his career. Do I think he catches Jack? No. Is he done? Not yet.

What doesn't make sense is using other players accomplishments to say that another player can accomplish something.
