What is the minimum act requirement for UCLA and Alabama

I'm listening to sports radio this morning and everybody is ripping the UCLA quarterback for his comments. But no one is mentioning the actual requirements for both schools. If there is a big difference in requirements I can see where his comment is valid. And what is the big reason for all this uproar?

People get mad for no reason
What Rosen said is fine
He used Alabama as standard for excellence in college football

Greg McElroy is on the radio this morning acting like someone called his sister a w**** or something
Posted on 8/10/17 at 6:48 am to Placebeaux
Greg McElroy just said that Notre Dame is not a top 10 job solely due to the academic standards of the program yet he throws the UCLA quarterback under the bus for his statements. What a f****** hypocrite

Not much to compare. UCLA is much more difficult to get into.

Reporting indicates the school consistently takes SAT composite scores down to 1070 on a 1600 scale, below which admission should be considered a reach. We estimate some students could be accepted with SAT's as low as 960. The estimated average SAT composite for admitted freshman is 1180 out of 1600. 21 percent of applicants submit SAT scores to the school. Note: SAT scores presented on this page have been adjusted upwards per the College Board's concordance tables for test takers after March 2016.

If you're a regular student. UCLA might be a bit tougher for requirements on student athletes but basing it off the requirements for regular students is ridiculous

What else is there to base it off of? Who publishes what it takes for a football player to be admitted into a specific school? Yes, the NCAA has minimum requirements but that's it.
We all have kids that don't get in academically so we can agree that there is some standard in place. It happens more at some schools than others. A lot more at a few schools. I suspect that for a lot of schools the minimum NCAA requirement is adequate. Others can be more selective.

Division I athletes have to meet minimum NCAA requirements, which is hardly anything difficult. Once those requirements are met, schools can impose requirements of their own on the student-athletes. As an example, this is the primary reason that Gary Andersen left Wisconsin for Oregon State, and these remarks were made publicly. He couldn't get players into school, especially from the JUCO ranks. I don't think there should be any doubt that UCLA places more-stringent requirements on its student-athletes than Alabama.

So 3 quarters of that 16000 have GPAs over 4.0 because of "advanced" classes presumably?
Grade inflation is shite.

Comparing it to the difference in requirements for regular students between the two schools is dumb though because we have no idea what the requirements are. And UCLA, just like basically every other major college football program, definitely has spots designated as exceptions to their self imposed requirements.

No problems with what he said
Just like I have no problems if they ever get matched up in a bowl game or playoff he may get a couple extracurricular shots headed his way

Sounds like he's right to me and could easily have said any school, he just picked Alabama because they are currently the 800 pound gorilla.
Oh, and frick Alabama.
Here is what he said:

Look, football and school don't go together. They just don't. Trying to do both is like trying to do two full-time jobs. There are guys who have no business being in school, but they're here because this is the path to the NFL. There's no other way. Then there's the other side that says raise the SAT eligibility requirements. OK, raise the SAT requirement at Alabama and see what kind of team they have. You lose athletes and then the product on the field suffers.

It's not that they shouldn't be in school. Human beings don't belong in school with our schedules. No one in their right mind should have a football player's schedule, and go to school. It's not that some players shouldn't be in school; it's just that universities should help them more -- instead of just finding ways to keep them eligible.
Any time any player puts into school will take away from the time they could put into football. They don't realize that they're getting screwed until it's too late. You have a bunch of people at the universities who are supposed to help you out, and they're more interested in helping you stay eligible. At some point, universities have to do more to prepare players for university life and help them succeed beyond football. There's so much money being made in this sport. It's a crime to not do everything you can to help the people who are making it for those who are spending it.

I wonder how many recent UCLA grads can't read like certain Gump grads.
