usc beat Auburn the year before.
Thats all I remember.

There's a reason why USC was ranked #1 in both major polls the day after those games were played.
What was the reason? Was it their great wins? That they had the best loss? Strength of schedule?

LSU had a bad loss to Florida at home in which it was dominated by the Gator defense. USC lost a 3OT game on the road to a decent Cal team.
Florida was unquestionably a better team than Cal was that year.

The whole reason LSU passed USC over was because Hawaii and Notre Dame lost in the last week of the season. Had either one of those teams ended up winning their game, USC would have gotten the nod over LSU.
You’re still not making the case FOR the Trojans. You can’t do that because you know they don’t have an argument. So instead you’re going to this. Telling.

I clearly remember the media that year calling Oklahoma one of the GOAT teams before the loss to KState. People forget how shocking that game was.
OU beat aggy 77-0 and UT 65-13 that year

Those teams actually had two common opponents that season.
USC @ Auburn (23-0)
USC @ Arizona (45-0)
USC had wins against three top 25 teams. (No conference championship)
LSU vs Auburn (31-7)
LSU @ Arizona (59-13)
LSU had wins against five top 25 teams.

And this is sort of the point:
If you look at most impressive wins, USC is 3rd of the 3
Least bad loss? You can argue they’re the middle team but they definitely don’t have the best loss.
Strength of schedule they are comfortably the worst of the 3.
So again what exactly is their argument? We haven’t gotten one in 20 years and still aren’t here right now.

That's because I'm not here to make a case for the Trojans, I'm here to make a case against Oklahoma. If you seriously believe the Sooners belonged in that game after getting destroyed by Kansas State in their conference title then I don't know what to tell you.

aka changing the subject from the OP because you know there isn’t an argument you can make.

1) They were #1 in both Polls by a wide margin before the computers.
The only Final Poll that wasn't obligated by contract to vote for the BCS winner was the AP Poll....they could watch the bowl auditions (Rose and Sugar) and decide the merits independently.
AP watched both games and voted USC #1 (48) over LSU (17).
Coaches Poll simply rubber-stamped the results of the Computer Bowl.

LSU would have beaten USC more comfortably than they beat Oklahoma so this isn’t really a concern.
The question is why did USC deserve a share of the title after the fact? That they were already #1 is not an answer.

The only argument that matters in this discussion is that AP national championship.

Yes i’ve stipulated already the media was upset their favorite team didn’t make it.
that’s not an answer. explain why they deserved it

USC had the best loss of the three teams. Period. Full stop.
Oklahoma lost by 4 touchdowns in December. LSU lost at home by 2 TDs against an 8-5 Florida team. USC lost a 3OT game on the road to 8-6 Cal in September. Cal defeated VA Tech in a bowl game that year.

AP national champions. That's all that matters in this discussion. We've had had this discussion at least four or five times every offseason since I've been on this forum, and I've been here since 2009. There is no reason to debate this any further because LSU fans are going to pretend that the AP never mattered and rival fans are just going to troll you because they know you are salty about the split national championship.
I'm not here to debate you. I'm simply here to say that the debate should be about Oklahoma, not USC.

How many writers work for The Advocate vs The LA Times?

All 5 of Florida’s losses were to teams that finished in the top 15 (Miami #5, Iowa #8, Florida State #11, Ole Miss #13, Tennessee #15).
of Cal’s 6 losses, only 2 were to ranked teams.
Do you want to try again?
