I was just browsing through TV listings and filtered only for sports. SyFy channel popped up with WWE Smackdown at 7pm. Do people actually consider this sport. I know that a lot of those guys are athletic, but there's no actual competition, so aren't they more like actors?

I consider even golf and darts to be sports, car racing how ever isn't.

Pro-Wrestling isn't a sport. Think of it as a really athletic performance art.

I am a golfer so don't take this the wrong way some people, but IMO a in a sport you have to be able to directly affect the others outcome

Athletic Competition

There has to be competition (a score, championship, etc) and has to involve an athletic aspect (so video games are out)

I like the test above about affecting the opponent's outcome. I've always used the test that its not a sport if the only way to determine a winner of a contest is with subjective opinions.

Eta: it has to be athletic, too, so no poker...

Two rules for athletic activity to be called a sport.

1. If said activity is scored via third party (ice skating, cheerleading,..etc.) it is not a sport.

2. If at the highest level of competition a women can defeat a man (car driving) it is not a sport.

If any athletic activity meets one of these two criteria it is not a sport.

My definition of a sport is an event that requires physical actions and a winner is determined.
