This is how I took what he said. Basically if the a woman strikes a man and the man strikes back then the woman is somewhat at fault (the man should shoulder more of the blame snd punishment for obvious physical reasons). The thought being that the situation might not have escalated if a physical confrontation was not initiated.

Some women (key word being some) probably know in their head that this guy cant hit me so i can do whatever the hell I want.
Two examples come to mind with this.
1. Chick on bourbon street walking through the crowd just plowing through everyone pushing everyone out of the way with her friends following behind her. Her reasoning? It's
not like anyone's going to hit me, I'm a girl.
Now, she should not get hit for that, but you are asking some drunk idiot to do just that.
2. I was out with some friends years ago on the second floor at a bar. One of the girls in the group thought some guy looked like a douche so she started taking the straw out of her drink and dripping it on the guy. She thought it was funny because it's not like he's going to come up and fight her.
We got her to stop as soon as we saw her doing it.
Some women like to start shite because they don't expect a guy to do anything. Not that a guy should hit a girl, but I wouldn't have felt sorry for either of those girls getting hit in those situations.

"let’s make sure we don’t do anything to provoke wrong actions, because if I come, or somebody else come, whether it’s law enforcement officials, your brother or the fellas that you know, if we come after somebody has put their hands on you, it doesn’t negate the fact that they already put their hands on you. So let’s try to make sure that we can do our part in making sure that that doesn’t happen.”
I have to say that those things in bold are completely out of line. He is basically saying that you shouldn't provoke it. That if a woman gets beat by a man it's her duty to not have provoked it by saying or doing something.
That is wrong. Stephen A. Smith should remember that white people said the same thing about Emmitt Till. That Emmitt provoked by what he said. That if he would have kept his mouth shout he wouldn't have been killed.

quote:Yes. He said words to this exact effect.
He is basically saying that you shouldn't provoke it.
quote:He never said this. This is your inference. If Smith was stupid enough to think this, he would be stupid enough to say it outright. Say what you will about Smith, but he's not smart enough to be coy with his language. He says exactly what he thinks, which is usually something stupid.

quote:no, but usually that woman will leave that man and go on and find more men just like him and find herself in the same situation over and over.
Wow. Does everyone in this thread really believe that Women should have to go out of their way to make sure they don't provoke a man into beating them? You really think that when a woman gets beat by an abusing maniac that it's partially her fault?
What's so wrong with Stephen A saying women should have awareness to keep themselves out of these situations?

Woman can be evil. They press buttons other men can't do to a guy. There are some that use this a a weapon. A dude has to be strong, not let a woman run their life in any way. Now. If a chick comes up to me and starts crap and get physical? I am gonna put her in her place. As far as Steven A. He is a very smart dude. He gets his point across and gets people to watch ESPN. His job is done with the length of this thread.

I said nothing about physical contact. There are other ways around it. I will never hit a woman. No reason to.

You seem to be averse to citing anything I've said that condones violence against women. Why? Have you nothing to cite?

Yes, if they do not want to get beat.

Yes, sometimes it is.
That does not excuse the man that does the beating, but yes sometimes they escalate the situation.
If you go to the wrong part of town at night and some thugs jump you, you know that you could have prevented it by not going into that part of town.

The Snooki Video is hilarious. Not in beating a woman. But in that that douche damn near broke his buddy's nose in the process.

No, but I strongly believe women should not go out of their way into purposely pushing a man's buttons, trying to piss him off into retaliation. It's not hard actually. I wonder how many men here have been in a situation with a legit crazy female.
