Maybe I'm reading this incorrectly, but it sounds like Payton wanted the surgery done in January and Loomis and the medical staff opted to wait to see if it'd heal conservatively. They got to minicamp and it wasn't right so they did the surgery in June.

Kind of sounds like Payton and the GM/medical staff aren't on the same page.

I don’t understand why the Saints training staff medical staff doesn’t get 90% of the blame for this.

Like why aren’t they in touch with all injured players weekly if not daily to ensure proper protocol is being followed?

This is on the Saints organization more than it’s on MT in my opinion

Mike Thomas has turned into one of the least likable players in the league. Coming from a saints fan too.
Hasn’t he always been unlikable and y’all just liked him because he produced?

bc mt was being a stubborn pouty bitch and didn't want the surgery and didn't go to the follow up and avoided what was being wanted done from the get go.

I guarantee you the Saints had no follow up with him for weeks if not months. Somebody/ies was/were shirking their duty bc they didn’t want to deal with him.

You can tell from Shawn Peyton’s comments that he’s annoyed AF (I’m not familiar enough with NFL orgs to know which department should get most of the blame though - I’d assume training staff).

Yea there just seems to be a lot to this story because on its face it reads that some expected it to heal on its own some said it should have had surgery in January and some feel that it didn’t heal on its own so then surgery happened. Why everyone wasn’t on the same page with the timelines seemed weird

They’re going to send him to a shitty team for their best player or something like that

trade

Probably won't happen anytime soon since the Saints are stuck with Thomas' cap space. Thomas signed a 5-year, $96M contract extension in 2019. He restructured it once in 2020 to free up cap space. The Saints returned to that well once again in 2021 to earn more room to get under the cap. With this new deal, Thomas' stands to earn $10M in salary in 2021, down from some $18M, which would have made him the highest earner on the Saints' roster. The restructuring will lead to increased cap hits in the future, as the Saints are unable to get Thomas off the books until 2023 at the earliest. This arrogant prick has the organization by the balls and he knows it. He DGAF and truly only cares about himself.

They can trade him next year as a post June 1st designation and won’t incur much, if any, dead cap money from what I can tell. The team trading for him would pick up that tab from that point.

ETA looks like I looked at his cap sheet wrong. Trying to clear it up.

Okay yeah it’s gonna be a tough pill to swallow if the Saints want to trade him best case scenario with that would be to trade him next year post June 1 which gets the dead cap hits down to around 9 mil for the next two seasons and then 5 mil for the final season.

Send him to Shitsville, USA and try to get as much value as you can. Then win the Super Bowl.

here are Thomas' salary/cap numbers per Spotrac - contract breakdown. Regardless, I could see this eventually turning into a Junior Gallette 2.0

I see Lakers fans are rubbing off on you I know you're joking, by the way.

But an Elite possession WR like Thomas would be excellent for a young QB like Jones.

Why do it on your time(off season)???

He got hurt at work, so he'll get surgery and rehab while at work.

See no issues with players waiting till the preseason and getting their surgery done.

Why have it done in off season, and ruin your off time in a boot or in bed??? frick the fans and Owner. This is how it works in real world.
