What are some ideas regarding a Salary Cap regime for MLB?

it starts with a salary floor.
no more of the pirates shite, where they would put out shite teams, and then suck up luxury cash, only to give it as bonuses to front office. and MLB punished them finally for it.
also, ANY/ALL luxury cash from big spenders goes into team/minor leagues none to owners.

Correct. You’re not getting one without the other. I’ve generally been against a cap, but I’m starting to reconsider.

What’s the average salary for a MLB team? What would be a good difference in the salary cap and the salary floor? 50 million?

Biggest thing is to close up the deferred salary loophole.
A salary floor would be a step in the right direction as well.. although I do see some drawbacks to a team really going through a rebuild and not wanting to put big salaries on veterans that don't fit the plan.
I don't think we're going to see any sort of hard salary cap.

I’d support a poor man’s tax. Owners would have to pay up if they spend under the floor. They could then choose to pay the tax for a year or two when in rebuilding period.

Since baseball salaries are guaranteed make all compensation be spread evenly over life of contract. If the player retires or gets cut the cap accelerates in that year.

Last year a Pittsburgh journalist reported the Pirates were losing money and the owner hadnt taken a salary in years.
Meanwhile, the Penguins can keep Letang, Crosby, and Malkin. The two latter betting two of the three best this century.
There are MLB teams with a gross revenue less than other team's payroll. The league is a joke.

I agree & think you could possibly carve out a rebuilding exception that allows for a certain # of seasons under the floor within a decade or other defined time period. It would have to be heavily regulated to prevent abuse but might be able to give both sides a decent compromise.

Also, the owner made it clear he isnt selling.
