was illegal.... but he chose it as the play of the game. Must be an example of those high standards ND's fans are always taking about.

Taylor Mays is fast as frick

USC scored on the exact same play a couple years ago, so I don't really care even if it is illegal, which I don't get

GA Tech's was illegal and so will ND's....that is if the Pac-10 uses the same rule book.

Has he been arrested yet? Is he looking at jailtime or is it just a finable offense?

i had to google search it because i could have sworn they did, but idk.

Carroll, however, conceded Notre Dame was a nonconference game, so different rules could apply to the Pac-10 crew.

"I'm sure that's the explanation," he said.

Or is it? Cal ran a similar play against USC two weeks ago, so officials apparently are allowing it in conference games, too.

Would love to get my hands on decent game video to look at some of those penalties and plays. NBC's is highly edited and sucks.

If the excuse is "conference rules", that's a prime example of why officiating has to move to a national organization. You can't have it called three different ways in three different conferences.

the rule itself is so broad that you could throw a flag on every team on every play

If that's illegal then it's a bullshite rule.

"Substitution to deceive"? What the hell? So wait, if the defense is too stupid to not see the guy get off the field, it's deception and a penalty?

That should never be called.
