Say what you will but he was a brilliant businessman.

quote:

He started out on the back of a garbage truck in Fort Lauderdale. Then he bought a truck, and eventually he created Waste Management," said Jackson. "Then he rented a video and decided he could do better and next thing you know he was opening up Blockbuster store a day. Then he sold that to Viacom and decided there had to be a better way to buy a car and he created AutoNation."

quote:

Huizenga was awarded expansion franchises to bring both the National Hockey League and Major League Baseball to Miami in 1993. The following year he purchased the Miami Dolphins.

Thank you Wayne for poaching Saban from LSU which eventually led him to becoming the HC at Alabama. Great man.

Honestly, in a weird way, he helped set out a new path for something unprecedented in college football

Not that I’m happy about it

Off topic - how ya doing AW?

We had a good run with lil dick St. Nick, but his inevitable dynasty was built elsewhere. Still cool to say his era at LSU started the year we started there. Wayne must have been a helluva salesman to get him to bite.

All good, podnuh! You still crushin' it in the midwest?

In addition to the saban stuff, he also cost us the greatest high school quarterback of all time (according to Bill Walsh). Rated ahead of Peyton Manning, Josh Booty chose to sign a then record signing bonus and contract with the Marlins instead of coming to LSU to play both football and baseball. Who knows what would've happened, but I sure would've loved to have seen it play out back then instead of 5 yrs later when he hadn't played a football game since 93'. Huizenga wouldn't let him out of the contract until Booty delivered him a World Series title and began the following year as the starting 3rd baseman on opening day. So once Booty finally arrived in Baton Rouge as the savior, we had to settle for a 1st team all SEC QB instead of a 3x Heisman trophy winner.
