I think that was a show in the late 70s, Superstars. I remember watching it.

No way Gretzky could do that today. Not because he's old and lost a few steps. There's no way he could run a straight line.

A very strong argument can be made that other than Babe Ruth, there wasn’t another athlete so dominant in the history of team sports than Wayne Gretzky the first 10 years of his career. Gretzky’s vision and hockey IQ was off the charts.

I got to see him score a goal against the Stars in person one Sunday afternoon. It was at the end of his career, when he was with the NY Rangers. We were sitting in the upper deck at one end and he scored on that goal. You'd have thought the Stars had scored. Everyone was probably happy to be able to say they saw him score, like I was.

That was a 60m (65 yard) race.

He won it with a time of 7.2 seconds.

That equates to a 4.39-4.5 40 yard time. Pretty damn elite athletic burst regardless of decade or opponent. World class burst.

Over 100m it equates to about an 11.2 time give or take a tenth of a second. Still fast but not world class. But he didn’t need that in his sport.
