I think the Warriors are the prototypical team to show the game has changed. The way they shoot the 3, the pace they play at, the way they use guys like Bogut, Iggy, and Draymond, and how they have the #1 defense.

Yup. Between them and the tiki-taka ball movement types like SA and ATL, that's the standard.

It's been kind of interesting for me as a Spurs fan watching the bridge between the two eras. The Spurs teams that won titles in '99 and '03 are so vastly different from the teams that earned Finals berths in '13 and '14 it's mind-blowing.

I mean, at halftime in a 2003 Finals game against the Nets, the Spurs led 33-30.

Last year, they put up 35 on the Heat in Game 3 of the Finals in the 1st quarter alone

I think it is safe to say the Suns had an impact on Pop

What you just posted is why Popovich is my favorite coach of all-time in any sport. His ability to adapt has been ridiculous. And the Spurs have not had talent that is head and shoulders above the rest of the league.

"Spurs" is still a curse word in PHX, according to my grandfather-in-law

What Pop did to them during the SSoL era was wrong, and absolutely I see vestiges of that in the current Spurs.

It's why he's my favorite too. Basketball is a sport, at least for me, that's tough to break down. I can't always see and understand in real time what a coach is trying to do as far as scheme.

Pop is so good at it and it works SO well that it makes it pretty obvious what he's doing throughout a game.

My favorite thing is to watch when Pop is up against a coaching challenge. Rick Carlisle coached his arse off last year against SA in round 1, and had he had a prime Dirk, they would have taken that series.

Don Nelson was a great Pop opponent, too. The hack-a-___ strategy that Pop is using now actually got pulled on him in the 2003 WCF by Nelson. Spurs were running the Dirk-less mavs out of the building in Game 1, then Nelson fouled the shite out of Bruce Bowen. Spurs lost their momentum and lost that game and homecourt advantage.

Think they should knock out the Blazers rather easily if Conley is ready to play.

From there on I don't know. I like their chances against the Warriors better than any team not from San Antonio.

If Marc plays like he did in the final game of the season then they sky is the limit.

I am always bully on the Grizz when it comes to the playoffs though because of how they play.

You just mentioned the 2 coaches who have made me excited about Bama's Avery Johnson hire. Those are two pretty good mentors

That series Vince

Unless it's being explained in real time, during a game, my awareness of what's going on is limited to "hmm, looks like they're going small right here." And of course, "looks like Lebron is taking over "

Think I just watched a video of theirs explaining how the Cavs have become better on offense. I've been reading a ton on r/NBA and found the link there.

ETA: Aw hell, looking around their website and I can tell I'm gonna be up all night reading. Good lookin' though.

Just watched that video

Horns ftw!

Although, they missed damn near 90% of the shots in the 7 minute video

I'm very excited for AJ. Good to see the Little General back in coaching.

People tearing down the hire either hate Bama, are bitter about Avery, or both, iyam
