Harper got more

Machado got right around what Lee got.

not sure if it is spread over 5 years like Lee though.

like i mentioned on the rant, Lee's bonus is the highest in dodger history. Kershaw had the next highest in 2006, $2.3mil

i dont think

i think his signing bonus is just paid out over 5 years. Im guessing it has something to do with the Dodgers financial situation?? i dont know for sure.

Still more than a mil per year for 5 years isnt bad for Lee's side either

That is just his signing bonus correct? What will his base salary look like, will he have any performance bonuses?

Jameson Taillon got a little over $5M from the Pirates. Not sure how much over $5M though.

Strasburg is making 2 mil this year because he signed a major league deal. The money Lee is guaranteed is just bonus money and so his salary will just depend on what level he is playing at.

the fact it's five years means the payouts come depending on him not playing football basically. Don't play football this year? Get another million...and so on til you're paid out. That's how most of em work anyways.

This is correct. Two sport athletes can have their bonuses paid out over 5 years. Its spread in amounts negotiated over the 5 years, if he quits baseball he must return the prorated portion. If he is cut, he can keep it.

As far as bigger bonuses. Machado also got 5.25 from the Orioles, Tallion got 6+ from the Pirates and Harper gets 9.9 from the Nats.

Depends on the league he's in, he'll just be on a minor league salary for now. Don't know of any minor league performance bonuses. Or any performance bonuses until guys get to their free agent years.

Update, Tallion got $6.5

A little more on the 5 year two sport contract. Its a rather common thing and the threshold for the MLB to grant it is not very high, basically do you have option of playing another sport. I remember a few years back (don't remember the name) but one kid had played in a few amatuer golf tournaments, so MLB let the team pay him over 5 years and the player got a little extra $$ out of it. It allows them to keep relative bonuses down each year.

Each installation of the payment varries, for example, two UW QBs both signed professional deals. Locker and Issiah Stanback. Locker gor 200K from Anaheim, however it isn't to be paid until the back end of the contract, and only if he is playing baseball. Stanback had the same thing, and ended up forgoing his MLB bonus when he signed in the NFL. (I think with Dallas)

Gotcha. the 5yr reference made me think Lee got a major league contract, but it's the 2-sport athlete thing that is the reason it's over 5 years.

Harper's bonus is paid out over 5 years as well, though. Also his bonus is $6.25m, the rest of the $9.9 is salary.
