re: Vince Young was a better college quarterback than Tim Tebow

I'm just not sure the athletes of that USC team can compete with the more advanced athletes and coaching enjoyed by the OU team Tebow defeated in the '09 Orange Bowl.

God, how I wish we had a 4 team playoff in 08. UF, OU, UT, SC, were as good 4 teams as any we've had in recent years. All 4 of those teams were freaking loaded.

05 USC didn't have a good defense. They relied on their offense more then the previous few years. That 04 USC team prison sexes every BCS champion outside of 2001 Miami and even then they would give them a game.

Giving Tebow credit for two titles is laughable. The 06 team was Chris Leak and defense. The 08 team lost to Ole Miss for crying out loud, and it's not like Tim tore it up against OU in the title.
What VY did in those 2 Rose Bowls was simply amazing. His mechanics were off, and you can question whether he had 'it' between the ears from a pro perspective. That said, I don't think I've ever seen a player carry a team on his back like Vince. He single-handedly won games. I don't think I see Tebow as that type of player.

He was so incredible. I couldn't care less how he did in the pros (same with Leinart) That should have no bearing on someones college career. It's really a dumb argument.

On D? Maybe no.
On offense, gotta be kidding.
But VY had to keep up with maybe the greatest backfield in college history and certainly a top 3 offense of all time.
It helps in title games when your D helps you out...
Texas did a serviceable job but they gave up about 600 yards. That was "containing" USC back then.
VY had the weight of a championship on his shoulders far more than a full team like Tebow.
Tebow never beat a team that won 34 games in a row, let alone a team that won 14 games in a row.

Without Tebow they don't win in 06. Remember who scored all 3 TDs against LSU.

Yes, but to credit Tebow that title as a qb is laughable.
Ryan Perrilloux started the 2007 SEC Title game, and when I look back on the natty that year, I don't credit him as a qb to lead us there...and he was an integral part of that team.

Johnny Football was still better than any of these dudes

Johnny didn't win a title, national, conference, or division. In Johnny's best season, he was still kept in check by a couple of teams. You didn't see that with the others.

Tebow was better than Young, but no, Tim wasn't a great passer in college. He had outstanding receivers and an innovative offense, which opened up the field a lot. His receivers were a better college unit than when we had Landry and Odell. They used all of their players. Tim's intensity and leadership go along way when comparing him to other college qbs.
Tim Tebow would not have beat USC in that Rose Bowl.

Are you serious?
Johnny football could be shut out.

There were 2 defenses in the country that year that could have held USC or Texas in check and they were in other BCS games.

USC would of ran through the playoffs with ease. Thats the best College D since 1997 Michigan

What is really interesting about the 2005 USC-Texas game is that most of the best players were backups at the time. Reggie Bush? Vince Young? Matt Leinart? These guys may have been the stars at the time, but they did not become the best pro players.
On USC's side, the best players were clearly Clay Matthews (6x Pro Bowler, was a walk on and special teamer in 2005) and Ryan Kalil (5x Pro Bowler, starting C in 2005). On Texas' side, the best players were Jamaal Charles (4x Pro Bowler, played sparingly in the 2005 NCG) and Michael Griffin (2x Pro Bowler, starting SS in 2005).

His last year Vince was unstoppable; more than tebow imo. Texas was DOMINANT because of Vince young. The d was good but Fla had way more talent on d for tebow and lost a game at home to an average ole miss. Side note: both teams played w high expectations and other than one game AT Ohio state tx dominated everyone on the schedule and beat a great team in the championship

Vince wasn't an elite QB until his Senior year. This revisionist history of Tebow is laughable. He was a great passer in college.
Tebow thrived in the system he was in, and was a very accurate passer.
He had receivers who created distance.

Texas actually had a top 5 defense that year, usc's was around 40 iirc.
What gets lost is that usc's offense destroyed an excellent Texas defense, save for the last 4th down play. The usc defense that vy shredded wasn't that good.
Swap tebow in for vy and usc wins that game by 2tds minimum.

What's frustrating is we still should've won by 2 TD's regardless. SC was so sloppy in that first half.
