JOnes is lucky as all hell that he didn't get asked questions about his sobriety. He sounded heavily buzzed and slurred a couple words.

I agree...and given his history, the thing that may have saved him was having the intoxilyzer in his car (as noted by the cop). Of course, that only checks for alcohol, not other chemicals.

The bottom line IMO is that Jones was an arse. We do not see their initial interaction when the officer first stopped Jones and got his license.

Was the cop a smart arse? Yes. He was being that way to lighten the mood it would seem. As pointed out, the cop could have just given the ticket and left without comment...probably should have. That said, just because the cop was giving as good as he was taking does not mean the tickets are invalid or conjured up. If anything, Jones certainly does not deserve the benefit of that doubt given his past indiscretions.

No video of the drag racing but we jump to conclusions. I think it's plausible he revved the engine up for some fans. Also think it's plausible he tried to race them. But once again tigerdroppings crucifies someone without all the facts.

The 7 minute video doesnt' present enough facts? Whether he deserved the drag tickets or not (which we don't know) is irrelevant, that's not close to the focal point of the issue. The issue is how he acted, which we DO have all the facts because we can see it. He sounded under the influence, he was uncooperative, cussing at the officer, tried to call a lawyer to, I presume, get out of signing...when if he woudl have just said "ok..hand me the tickets" and gone on his way he could let his lawyer sort all this out then.

The issue here isn't whether he deserved a drag racing ticket, it's that he acted like a tool.

The best thing is Jones pretending he was this super humble great guy at the beginning of his career. He told stories to the media about how he was the guy who ratted out anyone with weed in high school cause he's just so straight edge. Then Rashad Evans pointed out that he was completely fake and Jones just completely melted from there and couldn't fake his personal anymore and is now a total arse openly. All of his problems are the ufc's fault or the cops or whoever.

take them to jail and impound the car

How many times are you going to say this? Cause you're wrong every time.

And why does it matter anyways? Is his name not Jonathan? I'm sure when they run his tag, that's the name that pops-up.

yep, imagine how much worse it'd be with a DUI tacked on. I'd say he's pretty fortunate.

before the cop can even reads it he is calling him Jonathan, unless he can scan it in record time

how many times have you been pulled over and the cop is calling you by your name before looking at your ID?

I don't but some people get flustered when upset and have problems speaking. that's nothing new.

On 1 hand he's had a ton of driving issues he should just STFU and be happy he has a license

On the other hands he's probably been stopped a dozen times for DWB so I can see why he's pissed if all he did was rev his engine

Wouldn't common sense dictate that if you've had "a ton of driving issues" that you wouldn't do such things while on the road?

Best way to look at it was both were acting like dickheads.

the cop should have done his best to deescalate the situation but he didn't

the cop right when he comes to the window can't even spit out what he is trying to charge him with and mixed it up and his initial interaction with Jones was not professional.

the cop literally calls him that the second he gets it before even getting a chance to read it

of course the cop knows who is he is but he was lacking professionalism from the start.
