It wasn’t a check swing, it was a full body hack at it no matter what you think about the bat throw that part is objectively hilarious, I’m sorry. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen that on a high fastball before, and I’ve watched a lot of baseball

Giancarlo took a swing on the pitch I showed.

Robles was also clearly trying to pull up on the swing AND avoid the pitch.

Rather than get hit in the face he didn’t fully stop his swing

Giancarlo’s was very much a check swing. This is like when you auto swing during a video game

Go watch the video. He easily makes it 3/4 of the way and only stops because he got hit in the friggin face and went to the ground. That’s one of the best and strongest hitters in the game not victor robles

If I’m Robles, gotten hit multiple times, am a major leaguer on a friggin rehab assignment yeah I’m going to be friggin pissed

I seriously doubt there game plan was to hit the great Victor Robles. Its triple A baseball the pitchers tend to suck

If you suck at throwing a ball that can kill someone then maybe expect a bat or two thrown back your way

This is a great example why youth baseball is turning into a shitshow. Great example to our youth to swing bats at pitchers if you get hit one too many times.

[quote]He's on a rehab assignment and has been plunked 5 times in 15 at bats. Twice by that same pitcher who also beaned him last year.[/quote

Yet somehow the pitcher isn't punished...

People are in love with the cult of the tough, bad arse pitcher (large and in charge and going nine if he’s a starter) throwing at people and giving noogies to people who charge the mound. It’s why people share memes six times a day in Facebook baseball groups about how mean Bob Gibson was (when the man himself until the day he died hated being remembered that way) and about Nolan Ryan vs. Robin Ventura like that was a seminal thing in baseball history (Ryan would have gotten out of Dodge if Frank Thomas or Bo Jackson had charged the mound rather than have a mudhole stomped in his arse).

The pitcher initiates the action so he’s always going to be the most significant person on the field. But he’s not the most important person on the field to the exclusion of all others, especially in the world driven by metrics.
