what happened to the holding on stanford, but it was still 2nd and 7? herbie made a comment about it. i think this was in OT-1.

That was awful, it happened at the LOS so it should have been like 2nd and 17 or something. Lots of strange calls, the obvious holding on USC on the drive right before the game ended was really bad too. The personal foul and the 2nd half ending without a TO were the right calls though.

I never saw a replay, but assumed the holding was called on one of the guys blocking downfield. It's a spot foul, so if he was 3 yards over the 1st, it would make it 2nd and 7.

Right, it was on #10 so the officials marked it like it was from the end of the run, but the replay showed it was a tight end blocking in the hole the RB ran though.

that only occurred b/c he ducked his head down, though. if his head is "up" there's no contact

i couldnt tell the holding was, but usually it would be somewhat near the line of scrimmage. no way it was that deep down field for it to be 2nd and 7.

You back that up a couple of frames and you can see the initial contact is with the shoulder . The defender runs through the play. the frame that is posted is after contact and the head is coming forward and the defender is coming up.

It was a clean hard hit. If you watch enough PAC football you know better than to rely on the refs to make the right calls. Anytime you leave the game too close, you are in danger of letting the refs decide the game for you (or against you.)
