I'm not a usc fan in any way shape or form but I was pulling for them last night. That being said the personal foul for the hit on the receiver on Stanford's last drive should have been a no call. I'm not saying it cost them the game but I think these penalties should at least be reviewable.

Eh, it goes both ways, USC had a blatant holding on one of their TD runs and the refs just acted like nothing happened. I think at one time USC had 0 flags and Stanford had like 6 or 8.

I dont care about either team but that was a textbook call for the flag right there.

Going by the rules, that was an easy flag.

Do i think football is getting soft, yes but that was clearly a flag.

Watching the game and the highlights this morning show the guy hitting the head/neck.

It looked like a shoulder to the chest to me. He didn't lead with his helmet nor did he leave his feet.

Easy call per the rules and like it was said earlier USC got away with the holding on a TD run.

That non call was way worse than the personal foul.

It was definitely a personal foul.

Okay.

It doesn't matter if he led with his shoulder, because he still made contact with the receiver's head.

It was a personal foul, by rule. If you don't agree with the rules, that's another thing.

No way the ref was able to tell it was a head shot. He responded to the receivers body language . This is why soccer sucks due to all the acting out there. Not saying that guy was acting but it opens the door for it.

While I was pulling for USC, the penalty is hard to argue against. The ball was not close to caught and the safety didn't pull up at all with a couple step lead up after the ball was past. Plain and simple, the player could have adjusted to not try and kill the WR and decided instead to hit him as hard as he can.

Don't play stupid on 3rd and 6 with 2 minutes to go and USC might win.

Because unless you're already airborne you can adjust your body and trajectory, unless you just don't care to try.

Wow. You would have to have the reflexes of an BMW antilock breaking system to make the adjustment. That argument holds no weight.

The guy went for a kill shot when you haven't been able to do that for 2 years now. Also, Stanford would have had another down. USC still had a shot at the end and blew it, even while getting a gift of a no call on a blatant hold.

That player has been flagged for hitting high before. Then he said he would do it again because it gets his defense excited.

Everyone that says he hits him in the chest needs to watch it again. He lowers his shoulder into the guy's facemask, and the rule states that you can't hit the player in the head OR neck area so clearly that should've been a flag.

You can't launch yourself though.

Ironically if the WR didn't drop the ball it may not have been called

He didn't go helmet to helmet on the guy. He was making a play on the ball. I don't see how it should be a penalty even if it is a textbook call. It's a stupid rule.

The no call on the holding has NOTHING to do with this thread.

Right. Someone needs to explain to me exactly what rule he broke.

USC got screwed on the timing of it, but that was a pretty easy call to male. I think every ref in the country would have made the same call. If you want to see some terrible calls, WSU had one yesterday against Oregon and Washington had one against Arizona. Both times it was literally a shoulder to the gut and they were called.
