i dont think freddy is a midfielder
i think he is an ouside mid if any mid
i think him and jozy up top would be lethal
althogh i think dempsey up top would be lethal as well

Feilhaber first sub off bench? Please he needs to start.
To Ron Mexico: yes Freddy needs to start in the midfield or as attacking midfield.
Jozy, davies, up front. Midfield could interchange with adu Bradley feilhaber Dempsey Clark( defense) and of course donavon

I think Davies is putting himself in a place where he has to be considered up top every game...his pace is electric and he opens the field with it

I really like Davies, his speed is something you can't teach. I don't see any point at all having Ching and Jozy on the field at the same time. They are both holding type players...you need one striker to spread the offense while the other can finish and make good passes with his back to the goal.

what would Davies and Jozy be like together? Too similar?
I think for the sake of this tournament a Davies/Cooper partnership could be effective.

i dont think davies should be starting
he has a HORRIBLE touch
he might be fast, and a great change of pace at around the 60 minute mark, but he butchers so many opportunitieswith an attrocious first touch
i really reall really think that dempsey and jozy up top would be just awesome

With Jermaine Jones coming in, it is kind of hard to justify a spot for Feilhaber in the line-up. The defense is settled for the most part with some combination of Onyewu, Bocanegra, DeMerit, Cherundolo, and Spector in contention for the four spots.
In central midfield, it will be Bradley and Jermaine. I don't know what Bradley will do with attacking mids and forwards, but I could see him putting Donovan and Dempsey as mids, with Jozy and someone else (Ching or Davies most likely) up top.
In the second half, especially if the US has a lead, Dempsey could push up and Feilhaber could become the third central midfielder, playing higher up than the two starters.
I think that Freddy is probably best as an attacking midfielder, playing like Dempsey. Maybe by the time 2014 rolls around, he can start.

Adu's touch on the ball doesnt look nearly as good as it used to be. That probably has alot to do with lack of playing time. But he just gets muscled off the ball and pushed down when challenged. He's definitely a talented player but I'm not sure who I would play him in place of.

Can someone update me on Hedjuk's status?

I think Davies is a much bigger threat than Adu is up top. Just look at how the game changed completely once Davies came in. He brings an intensity to the pitch that Adu refuses to bring. All he seems to want to do is turn and shoot. I'm willing to bet that if Adu would have been in instead of Davies and received that pass from Feilhaber he would have put it on his left and shot instead of getting the assist. IMO

it's rust. plus, against him, honduras played a high-pressure, physical game (as opp. to grenada who played an extremely low-pressure game). he's still a very technical player. he just cannot deal w/people physically "manning-up" on him. in time, i think he either learns how to play w/it or gains a significant amount of strength. he's only 20, and in the past few years he's put on 10ish lbs iirc.
@his position brought up earlier in the thread: i think he's a second striker. benfica has played him out wide, and through his twitter, he has talked about how he felt that he was an outside midfielder. i just don't think he will ever have a place through the center of midfield.

When Jermaine Jones joins the team we'll have him and Michael at center mid and most likely Clint and Donovan out wide, with Davies and Jozy up top. Jose Torres and Freddy Adu could be really good subs and Benny when you need to create in the midfield a little more.

They'll have some great options to finish off a game.
Start Ching up top, with Jozy. Sub Jozy for Feilhaber at the 65 minute mark, move Dempsey up. About 5 minutes later, sub Ching for Davies.
With Davies and Donovan on the field, running at a tired defense and Benny to distribute, that can kill a game quick. Especially when a defense has had to deal with two physical forwards like Jozy and Ching for a game.
If a central mid picks up a card, you can come with Edu or Clark.
It looks like Rogers, Holden and Quaranta could be available to provide some width.
There are good things going on right now.

What the hell do you want to start Ching for? Jozy and Ching are a little too alike to play together IMO.
Posted on 7/9/09 at 7:46 am to hendersonshands
I'm not sure that Ching has a spot on the final roster.

I think Bob will hand him a spot over a younger player to be honest. I'm impressed with Rogers and Quaranta, I'd like to see them get some looks with the regular team.
Posted on 7/9/09 at 8:10 am to hendersonshands
I was also really impressed with those two. Quaranta was the biggest surprise because we've seen him on the MNT roster before but with no product. Adu was atrocious. Also, I thought Beckerman was collected with the ball in the middle. Your thoughts on him?
Posted on 7/9/09 at 8:13 am to tigerinbeastmode
Beckerman is fine against mediocre teams, he's a smart midfielder and makes good passes. I don't know if he's skilled enough to hold the ball against Mexico, but he's been doing fine in this tourny.
