When did I say that?
What I did say is I'm glad the underdogs won. It's nice to see the big names, the biggest mouths in the media (though few of those are actually on the Olympic team, but I digress), be humbled. I don't support American interests one hundred percent of the time, and this is one of those times. I don't care for the direction professional basketball has taken in this country.

I love watching the USA basketball team get smashed in front of the entire world.

But Muh the modern players are 10x better than past eras…. Lol
Posted on 7/13/21 at 1:20 pm to Madking
Modern Australians certainly are.

Deflect as usual. You know I’m not talking about the Australian players hence sarcasm and the “muh” in my post. On top of that are you claiming this Australian team would beat the Dream Team or DT2 or 2000 or 04 ect? I know you try to derail every single thread you’re in but try to stay on point here.

What does that mean?
I’m an MJ guy, but you can’t deny international play has gotten better, because of MJ and the dream team showing off in Barcelona.

the 2016 Olympic team won all 5 Vegas Tune Up games by 35+.
They went 8-0 in the Olympics. 4 of the games were won by 25+. the two close games were 3 point wins over Serbia and France. They then beat Serbia by 30 in the Finals.
Did Patty Mills and Joe Ingles get that much better in the last 4 years? I guess Gabe Vincent is going to sign a fat new contract this year in FA after his 5ppg season this past year shooting 30% from 3 as a PG for the Heat.

We also had all the best US players on that team.
We can’t just show up with the B Squad and be handed a medal.
You could make a better roster out of the Americans who aren’t there than the ones who are.

But the US lost to the Nigerian national team which is literally just a bunch of Americans who couldn’t called up to any US team.
Any argument about the world getting better, AAU culture, people hating their country, whatever can’t be applied. It’s guys like Mike Gbinije, Ekpe Udoh, Gabe Vincent, etc who are born and raised in the US and started playing with each other two weeks ago.

no matter who ends up being the 1 seed, we're the team to beat until we're not

THERE'S 4 ALL-NBA PLAYERS AND A DEFENSIVE MVP ON THIS TEAM, AND 4 MORE ALL-STARS, PLAYING AGAINST AGING BACKUPS AND GUYS THAT CAN'T EVEN MAKE ROSTERS.
QUIT MAKING EXCUSES

no surprise. the NBA continues to get more and more sissy. Tight pants wearing arse players are more concerned about being cute and social media likes. Please, no one ever try to compare the glory years of the NBA to anything during this era. No contest

Green won the defensive MVP 5 years ago when he was 26.
There were 9 american on the 3 all-NBA teams and 2 are playing.
Our prior teams that steamrolled everyone had literally the best collection of all-stars possible.
Lebron, Curry, Leonard, Paul George, Chris Paul, Zion, Jaylen Brown, James Harden, Donovan Mitchell, Julius Randle and Anthony Davis aren’t playing.
Throw in that the team is missing Booker
If all those guys are plying I thinj We can sleep walk our way through the Olympics and win every game.

I think their biggest issue offensively is they are all taking turns on offense instead of designating 2 guys as the main offensive options while having everyone else do the role player dirty work.
IMO the offense should mainly be Durant as option 1 w/Lillard running P&R w/him as option 2.
We know that Draymond can handle being a role player so he should be on the floor more often than not. After that whoever can pay attention to defensive rotations the most should be the other heavy minute players. I assume Middleton will be at least one of those once the Finals are over and more than likely Holiday will be as well.
W/o those two LaVine and Tatum have to stop playing w/their heads up their asses b/c they have looked horrible on the court so far.

“We also had all the best US players on that team.”
Kevin Durant, Damon Lillard, Brandon Tatum, Bam, Bradley Beal aren’t good enough to beat teams who don’t have an NBA starter among them? You keep suggesting that team USA is at a talent disadvantage to teams that are hilariously outgunned by the U.S. squad which is unquestionably false. Objectively speaking nothing you’ve said holds a drop of water.

You make a good point about the offensive issues but doesn’t it sort of speak to the modern style of play in general? The three point dependent play in the NBA is more of a disguise for a league that doesn’t really practice playing good basketball than it is an “evolution” of the game and it’s showing with the current U.S. team. It’s harder to gel when you’re not accustomed to playing the game correctly.
