I’d imagine part of having the bats “suck” on purpose is a line drive off a high powered aluminum bat to the pitcher’s head is dangerous. The weaker bats allow for more reaction time and less velocity.

While this is true, the problem, IMO, lies in Little League maintaining a pitching distance of 45' and bases at 60' through 12u. USSSA and several other organizations are 50 and 70 at 12.

So for safety concerns it is either increase the size of the infield or deaden the bats. The latter puts the cost on the individual and not the park management.

Don’t let your kid be the one who hits .230 and swings a $270 bat. It’s embarrassing.

Batting average must always be larger than the price of your bat.

The better high school teams are almost always full of travel ball kids. There are a few exceptions, but most of the kids that didn’t play travel ball spend their first couple of years sitting the bench and playing catch up. High school baseball coaches aren’t there to teach kids how to play the game....they expect them to already know how and your kid isn’t going to get that kind of instruction playing in rec league. Also, the elite kids are moving into showcase ball as young as 7th grade. It’s a completely different monster.

Best advice...let your kid swing the shittiest bat you can find because the BBCOR bats in high school are pretty much like swinging a wooden bat.

Just buy him a wood bat. It will refine his HE coordination, and make him swing at strikes.

Post-season report for Mustang rec ball. Very few balls hit in the air to the outfield. No home runs at all that I’m aware of.

Declining interest in rec. I’m not blaming that on the bats, but it certainly doesn’t help.

Buy them a wood bat and call it a day, if they can hit with a wood bat in high school then they are MLB ready

What’s the upside of this philosophy for those rare kids who don’t have the talent to ever play in MLB?

Solely, no. Mostly, yes.
I think it’s to the fact that most of the good kids play travel ball. From what I have seen though those kids have much less of a ceiling and stay the same in high school all 4 years (slightly above average).

Honestly BBCOR is supposed to be wood bat performance made with materials that are easier to maintain. They suck too.

For those of you that have been through this, how did you stay balanced?

Just keep reminding yourself that it is absolutely not about you. It's about your son and him enjoying the game and the friendships he forms. The worst kid ball parents are the ones who make it about themselves or try to live vicariously through their kids.

Depends on the high school coach. The good ones will judge based on talent and coach the team into a cohesive unit. The others will try to get prepackaged groups of travel ball kids and hope someone else has coached them up for him.

If your kids good he can stroke it with a broom stick. If not, go spend $300 on a bat....and it still won't help
