What does the US have to do to make the World Cup next year?

Well, this doesn't count toward qualifying, but they are in good shape to qualify for the WC. A win or 2 more and they are in.

They have to finish in the top three of the CONCACAF qualifying. They are currently 2nd. If they finish 4th, they play a playoff against the 5th place team from South America.

There are 5 more qualifying matches left.

chicken they break down all international teams into geographical groups. we're the 1st or 2nd best team out of our group, and i think it sends 4 teams. we're not in any worry
this tournament is a tournament of champions (i forget how they're determined) of these groups
it is nothing more than a primer for the host country of the olympics to show the world they can do it
this is a big deal for south africa

quote:I spent this past weekend with some friends from South Africa. They have invited us to go to SA with them next summer to watch a game. They describe South Africa as having Austin's landscape with San Diego's weather. They are from Johannesburg. Not sure if we can go, but we will try to do it. Although, if they are going to let people blow those silly horns all game, I may need to pass.

This is the Maui Invitational pretty much before the big dance.

I'm pretty sure those horns will be going strong for the World Cup.

Exactly. That would be the bordering African countries.

Just got home from watching game at friends house
1) USA played hard....Landon looked good in 1st half...which is encouraging..he actually had a few breaks upt he middle.
2) Can we not kick a ball within 10 feet of the goal? We had a few pussy touches but wtf...finish around the goal
3) Can tell when fatigue kicked in cause we just let Italy control midfield and t-off from right out of box
4) Bradley is the greatest coach ever
5) I hate to blame refs...but that red card and then no call in the box at end of the game..frick me man...I'm tired of playing Italy w/ them getting all the breaks.

Yeah, there's no doubt in my mind that the team is talented enough to win.

I think the term your looking for is "balls"...we didn't have a ballsy guy today around the goal

I don't hate to blame refs. Face it, they determine game outcomes to a large extent, and when one blows a call that causes a huge swing in the game, he deserves to be called out. He didn't do his job well. When I don't do my job well, I get bitched out. He deserves the same.

our d sucks 1st two goals are stopped if someone would just pressure the person with the ball.

I agree, but that's fatigue, really.
Bob Bradley still ROCKS though.
