2 of the last four cups we have beat the teams we had to play there

its very simple. the right guys arent on the field. quit being a fricking chicken little.

american soccer has come so far in 20 years its mindboggling. just calm the frick down

we outplayed italy 3 years ago down a man the entire second half

we should have been in the semis against south korea in 02, and probably the fricking finals, but we couldnt finish bunnies at the net against germany

the whole notion of us being a terrible soccer country is just false

My opinion is that we are just a really good coach away from being able to compete at the highest level.

Do you ever see positive SFP? We started the 2010 plan in 1998 and aside from a hiccup in 06, it's gone well. We have another shitty manager, and look what people like Mourinho and Klinsmann have done to average teams going against good competition.

we were down 10 men to 9 like two minutes in the second half i think

we had a goal wrongly taken away from us bc someone was offisdes who was not involved in the play

I think Damarcus. And technically, I guess it was the right call because he was "near" the ball. Whatever.

i am aware of this. we have talent that i think could get us to the quarters of the WC i believe, but we lack alot of things, like the preperation and coaching to get us over.

in 02 we took it to the germans all game long(couldnt finish, but still) do you really think this team is in any position to do that right now against some of the top tier world cup teams?

we're on our 3rd generation pretty much. we're not that young now

and CONCACAF isn't filled with world beaters. 1 good team and some solid teams.

We are pretty young, comparatively speaking, to the rest of the soccer playing world. I don't know how you are measuring generations, but this is a group of mostly American born players trained in America playing on the international stage.

Before we had naturalized citizens playing for us. That's a gigantic step, so I don't know how you want to categorize that in terms of generations.

I wish Sunil would get his head out of his arse and realize that Bob was an interim hire and isn't up to snuff. Good MLS coach does not = good NT coach.

Didn't we lose to Germany in 0-1 but were a count hair away from the tieing goal? and had all kinda pressure on them at the end.

Beat Portugal that year

this team couldnt do that, which is my entire point. 2002 was a long time ago, and we have gotten worse, not better even though we have better talent now then we did then

How long ago was Iran?

This is what people don't realize...3 maybe 4 teams make it to the World Cup from our region. Who gives a shite if we finish 1st in the region. As I recall we finished first in '06 and got paired with the Czech, Italy, and Ghana...BY FAR the toughest draw in the tourney..not even close. It's all about how other people are doing in their respective brackets. If us being 3rd puts us in a not so dreadful bracket then I'm all for it.

The talent is debatable. John O'Brien and Claudio Reyna were pretty awesome that tournament. I don't think we have anyone of O'Brien's talent, as he was starting in Europe at 17. I can tell you that Marvel Wynne would not have been on that team, let alone start at RB.

Portugal might not even make the World Cup next year and Bolivia is a bitch to play against in La Paz, but yes shite happens in qualifiers.

He wasn't that great at Bayern. Why not go after Scolari?
