That's the point people keep missing. All the U.S. is missing is the training other countries get. The U.S. has gotten by on mostly athletic ability since 1990.

Me neither, which makes the whole youth movement with soccer a daunting task. It can be done, but it is going to take a little time. I feel as if Germany 2006 was a huge wasted opportunity to get this country really behind soccer. The momentum was there for the taking after 2002, but..dropped the ball big time. Came in way too over-confident, from the fans to the players. This team won't accomplish anything as long as Donovan is the "leader."

i dont expect that. i just want a respectable team that competes out of group stage every world cup. someone you can get excited for.

Even French and Argentine squads have failed to make their way out of group competition. Need I remind you of '02?

ETA: frick, that year the Dutch didn't make it to the Cup. I believe they were bested in qualifying by Ireland (I may be wrong).

Does every CRC players put backspin or some type of english on their passes? None of their balls are ever played too far or roll past the end line.

nothing says american soccer more than a bad pass, bad first touch, and a 35 yard shot that's 15 feet away from the goal

i swear to christ i dont think our guys are even looking down field at all. they take a touch and then they just put it somewhere in the box.

our passing in or near the box is as bad as any team ive seen in a while

Yeah, but the percentages that make a difference are like that of the Mannings in the NFL. Really, SFP you are way smarter than that. Do you really think that the players in the EPL, LA Liga, or the Bundesliga are from privelaged backgrounds? I would venture to say it is about the same as the NFL, NBA, or MLB.

I would say maybe 5% total.

That's a bit of hyperbole. We've advanced twice out of the past four WC's. We are not as bad as people are making us out to be.

You could see the FAIL coming with that team from a mile away. 2006 happens and gives a swift kick to the nuts to the casual fan.

Frank Ribery is a great player and his teeth look like a Kentucky bootlegger's.
