Interest is already here. We need to fix the American Soccer Pyramid, have each MLS team set up its own academy, and get kids in early. The USMNT has gotten by on its athletic ability alone. American athletes playing soccer won't ever be a problem, but getting solid instruction early is precisely what is holding us back.
You've basically outlined the MLS model along with US Soccer. Several of the MLS teams have youth developmental teams. I know the Dynamo had a team do really well in the Dallas Cup last year. They'll get there.
Also, a lot of the select clubs have formed some sort of super-develppmental system. I am not sure of the details, but they play big regional tournaments a few times a year.

Soccer is pretty much ingrained into Brazilian culture, until it becomes that way in the USA...

Yeah... but no way Arena brings us back down 2-nill on the road against a team that has, in the last 10 years or so, been 2, or 3 in the CONCACAF
Posted on 6/3/09 at 10:24 pm to SlowFlowPro
i dont expect that. i just want a respectable team that competes out of group stage every world cup. someone you can get excited for. this team isnt it
Posted on 6/3/09 at 10:24 pm to mburne4
nothing says american soccer more than a bad pass, bad first touch, and a 35 yard shot that's 15 feet away from the goal
