i hate that god damne commercial now. somehow i dont think the europeans or the south americans care that we are coming, seeing as we we have gotten our asses whooped by TnT and now costa rica.
yes, im sure they are very intimidated. this commercial should be allowed when we get a coach who can actually allow us to win a game

We did it against El Salvador and now it's time to do it to the Ricans. This time I smell a Jozy two-spot and one from Landy.

it all starts with real youth development
once the kids are 15-17 they should be getting the frick out of america

you can't tell me we don't have 16M people in the pool for soccer
The population statistics are not relevant. What is relevant is that soccer is not seen as a way out in the US. It is a suburban sport, where the major objective is a college scholarship. In the US it is the NBA and NFL. Truly talented players are not coached correctly and therefore have no chance on the international level.

We should switch to a 4-1-2-1-2 so we can expand the midfield. We need better possession between the forwards and midfielders and if we add an attacking mid it'll create a triangle for some give and go opportunities.
I say keep Donovan and Alitdore at forwards and sub in Adu and put him at attacking mid. We need to come out with more energy.

its the same thing we have said for years... the best athletes throughout the world play soccer.. the best athletes in the US have probably never touched a soccer ball..
im tired of this being a fricking crutch for why the US doesnt play well in major events
its NOT true
Posted on 6/3/09 at 10:03 pm to SlowFlowPro
it also seems to me that we dont have a style of play.. with many countries, you know what you are going to get from them.. with us, its always changing..

it can be if we get kids paid at younger ages
i don't think it has to be. look at the dutch. a shitload of whiteboys who are just supremely skilled
why can't we do that with our suburban white boys?

well frick you then
its not about fricking intimidating the other countries. its about rallying around our guys and trying to gain support for this team

I don't buy it either.
I think i has to everything to do with ill preconceived perception of the sport. its like US soccer was doomed from the start. i really feel that if a solid marketing campaign was put into USA Rugby, it would takeoff simply due to the lack of preconceived perception.

it's not like brazil has a great domestic league

Is this sarcasm? I can't tell. I hope it is.

well, i dont think out game is necessarily shite.. tonight is not a good representation of US soccer.. but yeah, some things need to change..
Posted on 6/3/09 at 10:07 pm to Meursault
if you could take our soccer population and shave some kids from say, lacrosse, and actually develop these kids from youth onward, we could be pretty good. our biggest weaknesses have always been top flight strikers and CMs

who cares about the best athletes in the US
do you think that soccer players in europe are better or equal athletes to american football and basketball players?
the answer is frick NO.
soccer players are not the same kind of "athletes" as our "best" athletes

I know you are not this ignorant. Come now, you cant say England's or Argentina's best athletes play international soccer.
