conserve energy especially when you are the better player by far. Sometimes they just punt sets if they start to get out of hand and have a lead.

That's strategy.

Ask Davydenko and Tipsarevic
Tipsarevic removed his twitter page last year after he tanked a match. He was up a set against an inferior opponent, but the live odds had him as an underdog. People figured the mafia paid him off to tank and placed a huge bet on his opponent.

Davydenko was involved in a betting scandal for allegedly tanking if I remember correctly, but he was eventually cleared of any wrongdoing.

or if you know you've had more rest than the other guy it could work both ways. why not keep everything longer and keep the sets going
it works both ways

it has to definitely happen a lot especially since players have so many people involved in their inner circle. they're sort of like boxers

3 bps saved, Nadal has squandered a few game points himself. The game is going on 12 minutes

if you're down two breaks, why expend all your energy in the first set when the odds are against you.
The best strategy would be to come out firing in the second.

Some of these fans need to calm down.

how is that the best strategy if you know the other player is not as conditioned as you are. wear them down on each point even if you're going to lose the set.
