NASCAR’s gentlemen’s agreement went out the window in like 2003. Wish other sports stopped GAF too and just had fun

When did this become a rule not to hurt someone's feelings? This has been something taught since I was in Little League back in the Stone Age. Usually never applied to big league hitters, at least not to good hitters and particularly sluggers.

quote:

If someone wants to run the score up in football, let them. Either they're keeping their starters in for injury risk, or they have backups in and want to have them run real plays to gain game experience

I ascribe to the Bill Belichick philosophy of we'll stop trying to score when they stop trying to score.

Some stuff is just good sportsmanship. But it really ceases to apply in professional leagues IMO, then it can be about respect, just depends on the situation.

Is the 3-0 pitch thing for real? I didn’t know that was a thing. Thought batters just laid off to see if pitcher would make a mistake and get them to base for free rather than risking a pop out/groundout.

ETA: Did some research and it seems rule is centered on blowouts and the leading team not swinging at obviously fat pitches. I kinda get it as long as the lead is more or less insurmountable.

For the win. LSU fans were butthurt when this happened and some of those same fans loved the Zion dunk. Can’t have it both ways.

Easily. The “respect the game” morons ruined it for me throughout my entire career. It’s even worse the higher you get on an internal level. As bad as baseball fans are, the entire sport is filled with a bunch of miserable has-been coaches who want you to behave in an overwhelmingly oddly specific way then melt down if you unknowingly do something “””disrespectful”””

I don’t think it’s a feelings thing, I always felt like it was more of a stats game where it’s more likely that you get on base if you take after a pitcher gets down 3-0 because he’s obviously having trouble locating the strike zone. I think the thought process is to not get him back into the AB and up to 3-1 by swinging at ball 4

Yermin Mercedes had to take sensitivity training and Tony fig La Russa acted like Yermin raped his mom after Yermin yoked a 3-0 homer in the 9th inning.

quote:

"He made a mistake," La Russa said. "There will be a consequence he has to endure here within our family."

Same thing happened to Fernando Tatis

Bob Gibson threw a fastball near or at your dome if you didn't...and he wasn't one to be soft.

It's all about context. The Pelicans thing is a culmination of a lot of things, most notably the national media shitting on or ignoring us, and CP3 and his teammates being total bitches in the playoffs last year.

Georgia was a dick move just to put up a symbolic number. And so was their DT carrying an obviously injured QB around like a trophy. Why did they do that? Because Joe Burrow embarrassed them (but did no bitch moves) 3 years ago?

They are still butthurt about it. And still whining about the refs.

They definitely want it both ways.

So you are good with it if it is your team that is breaking the “unwritten” rule but don’t like it if it is the opposing team. Got it.

Agreed, players bunting on the opposite side when they do the shift needs to be more common.
