Roger is actually holding his own in the backhand to backhand exchanges.

The Great Great Rafael Nadal will be your 2017 Australian Open Champion.

He was the favorite before tonight, but I'm sure he's hoping Federer pulls this out.

The way Federer had been playing up until the resurgent Stan, I'm not quite sure Rafa Was hoping for Roger.

Happy for Federer but a little pissed he didn't cover 1.5 sets.

I did after what he did to Berdych and Nishikori, and after seeing the court speed, but that doesn't really count.

Pre-tournament? shite, I would have picked at least 6 guys ahead of him.

It's amazing how fast tennis players fall apart. Fed would be the second oldest grand slam champ ever after Rosewall. shite, you almost never see guys win after 30

Well, I guess I will be getting up at 4:00 am on Sunday.

I know you all want to see a Nadal/Fed final. However, if you are a Fedtard, you should be rooting for Grigolo tonight. I have already seen this movie and know how it ends. Nadal spins the ball up high on Fed's backhand and Fed taps out in four sets. Other than Australian Open 2009 (I know Wimbledon 2008, but it went all day due to rain and Fed was probably saved from a straight set loss by the delays, plus ended in darkness), I have never really been floored by the quality of their matches.

I'll be getting up at 4 a.m. as well. Can't wait. Never expected this. Both Federer and Nadal got lucky that somebody else knocked off Djokovic and Murray, but still have earned it to go this far. This is a lot of fun.

I'm watching the Fed/Stan match right now (just saw Rog get the break to win the opener), but I want to go back to Coco/Venus last night. As someone who is around junior tennis - I have a kid in it, this quote caught my attention:
quote:

For her upbringing this attitude is amazing.

This is so true - I think this is a big difference between American and European tennis in the current era. I have a kid who is a good junior player, but I don't think there is any way possible he can be under the assumption that he has to claw his way into the dream of being a great player to make his way in life. I see juniors with more talent than him coming from club systems, and I think the same thing. There isn't that desperate hunger. Don't know if that's what you meant, but that's kinda how I took that comment.

That semi was very enjoyable, and though I wanted the fresh face to win, having Venus have a chance to take the trophy doesn't suck either. I don't hate Serena, but her game is so physical, sometimes its hard to see art in it, if that makes sense, and I get a little tired of brute force, though these comments are inherently selling this great champion short, that's the view from my eyes.

To me Fed looks as good as he has looked in years, and after seeing how he handled Stan, I think I give him a slight nod over Rafa if that comes to pass, and definitely over Grigor, should he upset the (other) GOAT in the second semi.

One other thing that caught my eye catching up on this thread:

quote:

What is something that would cause premature hair loss? I'll take PED'S for $1000 Alex.

Don't you think this is a little unfair? How about plain old male pattern baldness??? This is Nadal's grandpa on his mother's side

- I'd wager that pate has been bare for many a year.
