I put $500 on Rafa to win the tournament at 4-1 about a week ago. My book will give me my money back right now. Should I cash out or let it ride?

Those aren’t great odds at 4-1, so why’d you bet it to begin with if you weren’t gonna let it ride in the quarters? If $1,500 would greatly improve your life, then losing $500 would probably sting pretty bad. So I’m sure you’re in a good enough place where this is just entertainment, so let it ride. It’s not the smart financial move probably, but that’s not why you bet it anyway.

You’re gonna regret pulling out if it’s a Rafa/Joker final with their history, Joker maybe desperate to finish off his only chance at a slam this year (I thought I heard he’s not playing in the Open or the Aussie, and they made it sound like maybe never again) to not only close the slam gap, but prevent it from getting wider. Even though Joker should probably beat Rafa easily here, that pressure combined with Rafa’s sheer will, ability to get in Joker’s head, and let’s not forget Rafa’s still got a shot at the calendar slam…

All that could make for a super dramatic and entertaining final and you’ll regret not having that extra juice on it more than you’ll regret losing $500 imo (if you’re financially secure enough to have dropped $500 in the 1st place). Now, if you’re a broke-arse degenerate, I’d probably cash on out.

OK, OK. As I said upthread, I feel like Rafa is a 70/30 favorite today and I would flip that against Nick. But, Nick is a psycho and has his shoulder issues, so Rafa could end up coasting to the final if he gets through today. I think I saw Rafa has some type of stomach strapping, so that is sometimes a sign of doom as it's hard to serve. Anyway, I am pumped up for this match.

Not a great first service game for my man Fritz. Dangit.

I've been seeing a lot of tennis betters putting money on Fritz. Guess this was a classic fade the "sharps" play. I couldn't pull the trigger on the Fritz ML, but I do have Over 3.5 sets so hopefully Fritz can win at least 1 set.

*I believe Agassi would have been the best baseball player in the history of pro tennis players. Dude would have hit for both average and power as a switch hitter. He'd have been a HOFer imho.

This is an interesting take. He’s definitely got the best hand-eye coordination I’ve ever seen in tennis, and I think if he’d have gone to a baseball school as a kid and dedicated his life to it, he could have certainly made the bigs and been really good. Not sure he was big enough at 5’10” to have had the requisite power to make the HOF playing in the late 80s/90s. He’d have probably been a great defensive middle infielder, though. But I don’t think he’d have organically made it having grown up just playing Dixie Youth or Little League.

Agassi is by far my favorite tennis player of all-time, and I like Rafa the best of the current big 3. Pretty clear Rafa is your favorite of the big 3 and likely of all-time, but I seem to have picked up over the years your appreciation for Agassi and would guess he was probably your favorite of that era. Am I crazy or does there seem to be some correlation with people being fans of 1, being fans of the other? Is there some similar quality they have/had that makes them attractive to the same people? Is it as simple as they competed at the highest level without having big serves against guys who did?

Or is my perception wrong? Like I bet guys who liked Sampras probably liked Fed the best. Or could it be those fans liked the aesthetics of Pete and Roger’s 1-handed backhands and I appreciate the skill of Andre and Rafa’s 2-handeds? Or I could be full of shite and seeing things that aren’t really there.

Nadal doesn't look like he's having too much fun out there. Seems sort of mentally drained.

After the last match, somebody mentioned some sort of abs issue, like his weren’t prepared coming in for this surface like normal. I don’t know why grass would put more strain on your abs than the other 2, but I’m sure it does the way they were talking.

Rafa being so mid at Wimbledon has always been interesting to watch. He was hard done a few years back when him and Novak had to play in the closed roof match. Won't be shocked if he loses this in straights.

I think he'll be lucky to get a set. I don't think he can muster the intensity needed against a formidable opponent right now.

ETA: Fritz with a giveaway game. frick me.
