1. Game 6 1975 World Series, Bernie Carbo hit a 3 run HR tie the game up and make Fisk’s 12 inning homer possible. 2. Game 2 1984 NBA Finals, Gerald Henderson steals James Worthy’s pass to tie up the game. If he doesn’t make that play, Lakers win and go back to LA up 2-0 and we don’t get a 7 game classic with the Celtics winning a title. 3. Dee Ford jumping offsides in the 2018 AFC title game. Penalty negates a pick that ends the game. Brady gets a second life and wins the game in OT. 4. Darwin Cooke taking the ball from Clemson at the goal line and going 99 yards to the house. Opened up a close game and WVU puts 70 on Clemson. Vernables takes over the defense after that and Clemson has massive success.
None of these are “underrated plays” (well maybe the Clemson one). They just happen to be dominos that fall and allow other things to happen.

you misspelled "good"
He catches it on the run and in the same motion throws it backhanded to the catcher perfectly for the out. That’s pretty amazing.

and about 100 more difficult plays are made every single year by SS or 2B up the middle on double plays.
Jeter is that one guy that for some reason being "good" is like calling someone's momma whore or something.
I'm not knocking the dude. Play was absolutely a good play.
Just not all time great play that it's made out to be.

Yes they led to bigger moments, but they were critical plays and you don’t see them all the time, hence underrated.

Right. But they were seemingly mundane plays. Just like other plays in those games.
What you’re talking about would be better listed as “changed the course of history” plays or events.
Miami’s doctor clearing brees makes Les miles one of the greatest coaches ever. Saban stays at Miami, no Bama dynasty to stop miles.

I would call the jetet play amazing if it happened in an naia game.

The Santonio Holmes catch in the Super Bowl. It's not that it doesn't get talked about or make lists of great plays. It's that it probably doesn't get mentioned enough or as highly as it should...thus making it "underrated".
Kirk Gibson's home run is my favorite sports play of all time. But that was still only Game 1 of the WS. LA had to win 3 more. With this play Pittsburg was trailing with 40 seconds to go with a championship on the line. I don't which is better. The throw or the catch. Both were incredible in that moment.

Asante Samuel drops an interception during the Giants' final drive in the first Super Bowl against the Pats. If he catches that there's no Tyree catch and Burress game winning TD.
I wonder why this one isn't brought up more often. He had his hands around an almost guaranteed pick and all he could do was look at his hands.

That is just unequivocally false. Like laughably untrue.
It's like you're equating a glove-flip double play ball to what Jeter did on that play. It's a pretty amazing play in any game honestly. But in that game and situation, it's most definitely elevated IMO. It's not the greatest play of all time or anything, but the amount of hatred it gets alone classifies it as "underrated" IMO.

you're right, a diving catch & glove flip on a ball moving at 100+ mph is way fricking easier.
again, I acknowledge that it's a good play.
I'm not saying it isn't.
I'm saying it is not some other worldy amazing play in the history of the sport like it is made out to be.,

1. Vikings get a delay of game coming out of a TO in the final minute of the 2009 NFCCG. Next play they feel like they need a few extra yards for a Longwell FG so Favre throws the across-the-field INT to Tracy Porter.
2. Colts opt for a 51-yard FG up 17-16 in the 4th quarter of the Super Bowl. Matt Stover was 41 and hadn't made a 50-yard FG in 4 years. Saints get the ball back near midfield and drive down the field and win. They should have punted and made the Saints drive a little longer. It was too early in the 4th to start thinking about extending the lead from 1 to 4. Over half the quarter was left.

1995 NBA Finals - Game 1
Orlando leads Houston by 3 with 10 seconds left. Nick Anderson misses 4 free throws, any one of which would have sealed the game. Houston wins the game in overtime and goes on to sweep the series.

Dude is safe by a mile if he slides. This play and jeter catching the ball and diving in the stands after the catch are extremely overrated

SB44. The Colts took the lead in the 3rd quarter. During that drive, Peyton Manning made one of the most ludicrous throws I've ever seen to Dallas Clark, who was surrounded by Saints defenders on a 3rd down play. 59:00 in this video.
I'm not a Saints fan (or a Colts fan for that matter) and ultimately it wouldn't have changed the outcome of the game. Nonetheless that pass has always stood out to me.

Dec. 8, 2001 | LSU vs. Tennessee for the SEC Championship. LSU holds a slim 24-20 lead, just went 3-and-out and UT is driving. Clauson completes a huge pass to Stallworth and then he fumbles, ending the threat. LSU then goes on a game-clinching TD drive to upset the No. 2 Vols who still have never played a bigger game since and catapulted LSU.

2012 LSU-Bama game. Tigers are driving for an almost certain TD and we get a stupid personal foul that shuts the drive down.
