Rather, students at large benefited from anomalies specific to the department, such as unauthorized grade changes, forged faculty signatures on grade rolls and limited or no class time.

The independent investigation, headed by Martin, shows that irregularities in the African and Afro-American Studies department went back further than an original probe revealed -- to fall 1997.

Didn't Julius Peppers take like 8 classes that didn't exist?

It's both academic and athletic.

well if it's academic, and athletes happened to take the classes that are in question, then by default it's both. I'll correct the title to say "not just athletic scandal".

What this means is penalties might go out of the hands of the NCAA... is their accreditation at stake?

Yeah, it's both. Heavily implicates both football and basketball, along with the AA department's administrators.

UNC is the greatest liberal arts college in the South. It would be such a shame for them to lose their accreditation over this.

Poor classic french literature majors who end up working in hospitality.

of those 454 unauthorized grade changes what % do you think involved athletes?

probably a high percentage, but then again these majors generally aren't for people who take college seriously. I'd wager they're upwards of 50% athletes anyway.

101%*

The extra one percent is because Julius Peppers played two sports.

In 1996-97 Dale Brown brought in his last star recruit: Baton Rouge high school phenom Lester Earl. Earl lasted 11 games at LSU before he was suspended. He transferred to the University of Kansas soon afterward. While at Kansas, Earl said that an LSU assistant coach gave him money when he was at LSU.

The NCAA quickly began an investigation. It found no evidence that Brown or his assistants paid Earl. However, it did find that a former booster paid Earl about $5,000 while he was attending LSU. LSU was placed on probation in 1998.

Roy Williams can rot in hell.

As long as they run that football, make those baskets and spectacular dunks, why should we care what grades they make. I promise this is going on at A LOT of MAJOR universities.
