Ump was a total tool.

That being said, the pitcher in this situation was Mariano Rivera. It's VERY unlikely that the AB would've ended in anything other than an out even if the correct call had been made.

I think the batter went around. So it really doesn't matter.

the ump in question is an asshat with a history of trying to be the star of the show. baseball has no balls and won't do a thing about it, probably because they have acquiesced so much power over to the unions.

Somewhat related, but I hate when a ref/ump gets overly dramatic making a call. Say it's a close game in basketball and the ball deflected off a player's leg and goes out. The ref will jump on one foot 3 times while slapping him thigh, then lunge and point in the direction. Or when an ump about throws out his shoulder signaling a player is out.

I nvermind that. Its usually a big part of a game and loud. They get excited as well. Plus when its loudmore movement is not a bad thing to show a call.

Well, I ref games and I can't imagine getting so worked up about a call that I do some antics like that. If you want to get their attention, use your whistle (I know they don't have them in baseball). That's what it's for. We're taught to act professionally, and these men look bush league when they do that. When you get so emotionally involved in a game to where you start acting like a fool, that's when you start making calls based on what you think is going to happen. You see it in basketball all the time.

I agree, you are the umpire and supposed to be arbitrary, it shouldn't matter how big the call, the emotion should be the same.

First thing I'll say, first thing I thought was that it indeed was a foul ball. As did the commentators. When the camera went to the behind the plate view is when you saw it wasn't. But, cut the ump some slack. He's got it harder than the players. It's enough for him to be in control of the game at all times. But I'd like to see y'all call those calls with the pitches coming 95+. Now imagine it when literally everybody in the place hates you. I'm just saying, that's a hard job and he's the only one doing something every pitch of the game. We also don't know if there were things said prior to that at-bat. And frick it, once the game is over, it's over. And that means both parties, the umps and the players. He should've handled it better.

I do not see the blown call as that bad, it happens. My gripe is the way he acted like a jackass after the game. A lot of umps just like getting into the faces of players/managers.

He should have given the umpire the signal that he was ejected. Game is over it has no effect on the game. Make a joke of the umpire by ejecting him. Yankees fan would have got a kick out of that.

A simple "frick you too" as you head off the field is all that was needed, or just be a pro and say nothing.

The first replay sounded and looked like a foul, but after slowing it down it wasn't. Yes, he made a mistake and they happen, but he made a mistake and then tossed a guy.

I've actually seen an umpire do this at the high school level. The game was over and he threw the coach out the game.

notice the update from the website -

"Update: MLB made us take down the video we edited to show everything that happened. Here's the full audio of the aftermath from STO, and pay close attention to the end because that's where you'll hear what Randazzo says to Terry Francona"

MLB doing their best to cover it up.

That ump was being a spectacular douche after he fricked up a call. There is no reason for an ump to act like a POS.

Yet another reason to love the NFL. A ref cannot pull shite like that.

Baseball and basketball have it the worst. Wasn't Tim Duncan tossed from a game for smiling and laughing from the bench?

Baseball is especially ridiculous where looking at the wrong ump a certain way can get things started.
