Bullet usually puts on great performances. I think she didn’t want to take any chances in this one and just get the belt back.

That's true. I could see her using this style a lot more going forward, though, especially at her age and stage. Can't imagine that she'll want to stand and trade blows with Fiorot (weight bully).

With wrestlers now dominating, I wonder if UFC will start to see declines in ratings bc the fights are seemingly “boring” lay and pray types.

I think Dana must have told Herb Dean to make sure that Merab wasn't just holding O'Malley down the whole time. Herb was quick to tell them to keep working on the ground, and he told them multiple times.

I think Dana knows that the product suffers if all the champions use the boring Jailton Almeida method.

How often do great strikers win against great wrestlers?

O'Malley beating Aljamain is one of the few examples coming to mind.

I think O'Malley wanted to score the same punch on Merab, but Merab was hip to it. So O'Malley spent the fight waiting to pull the trigger on the sniper shot, but the moment never came.

O'Malley found success with the teep / front kick at the end. Maybe if there's a rematch he'll take the fight to Merab more / take more chances.

Y'all see that Suga is pretending like he was hurt leading up to the fight? Hate to see guys making excuses after they get completely dominated.

I hope suga can return some of those lambos. He won't be competing for the belt again

nah my guess is they will let him fight 1 or 2 winnable matchups and let him get destroyed by umar or merab whoever has the belt.

my guess is they schedule umar vs merab, then in 9 months or so do sean vs figuerado who is a small dude. not that its a easy fight but its definitely the easiest of those 3.

Yeah Valentina made it look really, really easy Saturday. Came away even more impressed with her. It was as if she could win every fight that way if she wanted to, but it’s not really a challenge to her and she’d rather win in a more entertaining way.

I just don't see how he gets a rematch without going through aljo again. O'Malley is not as big of a name as Dana wishes he'd be

He's having surgery so I don't think he's pretending. That said, I'm not sure the injury had anything to do with the outcome.

he's every bit that big of a name. He's not as great of a fighter as Dana thinks he is. That's his problem.

He is a great fighter. Dude has some spectacular performances.but a lot like poirier. He is in a division with guys that are elite wrestlers.

I mean to be fair he makes good money outside of fighting, so he's fine.

he has exactly one finish against any of the good fighters he fought. And that was an extremely early stoppage against Sterling.

So, yeah. He has a bunch of cool finishes against shitty competition. Congrats, I guess.

Who do we want to compare him to in the current crop of bantamweights as far as KO finishes? I’d say garbrandt is the only guy more impressive.

O'Malley now claiming he beat Merab. He's moving pretty well for someone who needs hip surgery

He doesn’t believe that but he’s doing it to angle for an immediate title fight against Umar/Merab winner. It’s a scummy move that is getting backed by Dana. Even White said “I didn’t know he was hurt before the fight”. Dana is playing dumb but he’s setting a big money fight between Umar vs O’Malley. They don’t like Merab as champ. 100% they make the Umar vs Merab fight. Did you see how the camera quickly turned to Umar when Merab got the decision win? You think that was just random? I think not.

probably. he did a pretty decent job handling merabs wrestling and getting back up, but I felt like merabs movement while standing kept him from being able to plant and land shots. either that or he was trying to be prepared for the takedown and wasnt throwing.

umar is a different beast though his striking is much better than merab.
